How to Support The Broke Backpacker
Hello friends and fellow adventurers!
We want to take a second to thank you for visiting our humble little travel blog!
The last period of time has been extremely difficult for the travel industry and we thank you for choosing to spend your clicks on our site 🙂 We have a big team of awesome people to keep employed and it’s been a challenging time for us so your support really makes a difference and is appreciated.
The Broke Backpacker was created to provide fellow adventurers with the best possible advice and to enable them to go further. Ultimately, this site exists for the sake of you guys, and not the other way around.
We will NEVER ask for any sort of donation, require any sort of subscription, or troll anyone with a paywall – that’s just not the way we do things.
But you can help support The Broke Backpacker. Simply by booking your accommodation or buying your travel gear through our affiliate links, you help us keep our team employed and keep the site free for everybody.
When you make a purchase through one of our affiliate links, we get a (small) cut of the sale. It’s incremental, but it’s incredibly helpful.
If you bookmark this page and use it to plan and book your next adventure (whenever it might be), then you will be helping us out big time. Thank you in advance for helping us with this, it means the world to us.
It’s important to note that we FIRMLY believe in only recommending quality backpacking gear, the best hostels and the most unique AirBnBs, The Broke Backpacker is about equipping travelers with the necessary tools they need to travel the world on a budget, without stress. We’re going to give you the best fucking resources possible.
Below I have assembled a list of some of the most useful platforms which we have been personally using for years. Please, bookmark this page, kindly visit it, and click through the links whenever planning your adventures and wanting to use any of these services. That’s all you have to do.
Stuff We Love
Hostels are a backpacker’s home away from home. They’re cheap, social, and almost always a good time. Honestly, who doesn’t have a crazy story from a night in one of these?
Why do we love Hostelworld?
Hostelword features THE most complete directory of hostels on the web. If there are four walls and a bunk bed anywhere in the world, you’ll find it here.
Some call it a recreation store; we call it heaven on Earth. REI is our go-to source for all backpacking and outdoor equipment because we love everything that they have.
Why do we love REI?
One word: quality. The gear that REI offers is simply the best out there. You’ll pay a bit more than usual, but you’ll be investing in the finest money can buy.
We get it: sometimes you want to add a bit of romance back into your life and a hostel dorm isn’t the place to do it. If you need a private apartment, Airbnb is the perfect platform to find one.
Why do we love Airbnb?
AirBnB is an amazing tool for finding truly unique, special, surprisingly cheap accommodation on the road. If you need an apartment ASAP, you can find one in five minutes using Airbnb.
Grayl is hands down the best filtered water bottle on the market, allowing you to cut back on plastic waste and ensure you can always stay hydrated.
Why do we love GRAYL?
Because it has a filter, you can take water from just about anywhere. The GRAYL filter is particularly effective too, removing 99.9% of bacteria, protozoa, and viruses in addition to particulates.
Our favorite hostel and Bali’s first custom designed co-working hostel, Tribal is an epic hub for digital nomads and aspiring entrepreneurs.
Why do we love Tribal?
This hostel’s got a dedicated co-working space, a delicious restaurant, well-stocked bar, a huge pool, and… well, what else do you need? ‘Cause they probably got that, too.
Nomatic makes the sleekest 40L travel packs we’ve ever tried. We’ve been big fans since day one and will continue to use their bags for the foreseeable future.
Why do we love Nomatic?
Nomatic bags are very well designed and look damn good too. They’re practical, ingenuitive, and above all comfortable to travel with. What more should a backpack have?

Final Thoughts
Never fear my friends: the world will return to a new normal and soon enough we’ll all be out gallivanting across the globe again. I for one cannot wait to hit the road once more!
As always, make sure you have some form of travel insurance, like SafetyWing, before hitting the road. During COVID times, having insurance is especially important and some may countries may not even let you enter without it.
