Philippines

Paradise, as far as the eye can see. With more than 7,000 islands, the Philippines is pretty much made for beach bums and divers. Party on the beach, trek up volcanoes, dive into crystal-clear waters or escape to a deserted island. The choice is yours.

    Philippines Travel FAQs

How long do you need to backpack the Philippines?

I'd give it at least 2 to 3 weeks if you want to see a few different islands without spending your whole trip travelling. A month gives you much more breathing room, especially if you want to combine places like Palawan, Cebu, Bohol and Siargao. With more than 7,000 islands, trying to see everything in one trip isn't realistic.

Is the Philippines good for solo travel?

Definitely. The Philippines has a well-established backpacker scene, and island-hopping trips, diving excursions and group tours make it particularly easy to meet people. The main challenge is getting around, so building some flexibility into your itinerary is a good idea.

When is the best time to visit the Philippines?

Generally, November to May is the best time for beaches and island hopping, with drier weather and calmer seas across much of the country. June to November brings wetter weather and the highest risk of typhoons, which can cause flight and ferry cancellations.

Do you need to plan your Philippines itinerary around the islands?

Yes, and this is one place where less is definitely more. The Philippines is spread across thousands of islands, so getting between destinations can involve flights, ferries and long road journeys. Picking one or two island groups and giving yourself plenty of travel time will make for a much more enjoyable trip than trying to tick off as many islands as possible.
