Switzerland is the kind of place that makes you question whether you've accidentally walked into a postcard. Why doesn't Switzerland use the euro?
Switzerland isn't part of the European Union or the eurozone, so it has its own currency, the Swiss franc. Euros are sometimes accepted in tourist areas, but you'll generally get a better deal paying in Swiss francs.
What are Switzerland's four national languages?
Switzerland has four national languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh. German is the most widely spoken, while French is common in the west and Italian in the south. Romansh is spoken by a much smaller population, mainly in parts of Graubünden.
What's the best way to see the Swiss Alps?
You don't need to be a hardcore mountaineer. Switzerland has an incredible network of trains, cable cars and hiking trails, so you can get spectacular Alpine views without tackling a serious summit. Scenic train journeys are also a brilliant way to see the landscape.
What Swiss foods should you try?
Cheese is obviously going to feature heavily. Try fondue and raclette, but don't stop there. Rösti, Älplermagronen and Swiss chocolate are all worth seeking out too. And yes, eating melted cheese in the mountains is every bit as good as it sounds.
