Croatia
Croatia has become famous for its beaches and party islands, but there's a whole lot more to discover once you venture beyond the coast. Wander through ancient cities, swim in impossibly clear water, hike through national parks and eat your way through the local food scene. From Dubrovnik and Split to the quieter islands and inland countryside, Croatia is made for getting out and exploring.

Croatia Travel FAQs
What's the best way to travel between Croatia's islands?
Ferries are the main way to get around the islands, with regular services connecting popular destinations during the summer. Some routes are seasonal, so check timetables when planning your itinerary rather than assuming every island is connected year-round.
What Croatian food should you try?
Croatian food varies by region, which is one of the best excuses to keep eating your way around the country. Along the coast, look out for fresh seafood, grilled fish, octopus salad and black risotto. Inland, you'll find heartier dishes, while pašticada, štrukli and local cheeses are also worth trying. And yes, there's plenty of excellent Croatian wine to wash it all down.
When is the best time to visit Croatia?
Late spring and early autumn are great for warm weather without the peak summer crowds. July and August are the busiest months, particularly around the popular coastal destinations and islands. If you're visiting mainly for beaches and swimming, summer is your safest bet for reliably warm sea temperatures.
Do you need to book hostels and ferries in advance in Croatia?
If you're travelling in July or August, especially along the coast and islands, booking ahead is a good idea. Popular hostels can fill up and ferries on busy routes can get crowded. Outside peak season, you generally have more flexibility, but it's still worth checking ferry schedules before setting off.
