Pakistan Travel FAQs
What is Pakistani hospitality like?
It's a huge part of travelling in Pakistan. Don't be surprised if locals strike up conversations, invite you for tea or go out of their way to help you. It's one of the things many travellers remember most about the country, and it can make even a challenging journey feel much easier.
Is Pakistan good for backpacking?
Yes, although it can be a more adventurous trip than travelling around some of its neighbours. Pakistan has a growing backpacker scene, incredibly welcoming locals and some spectacular overland journeys. You'll need to do more planning around transport, accommodation and regional travel, but that's part of the adventure.
Is the Karakoram Highway worth travelling?
Without a doubt. The Karakoram Highway winds through some of Pakistan's most spectacular mountain scenery, linking Pakistan with China and passing through places like Hunza and Gilgit along the way. The journey can be long and unpredictable, but the views make it one of the country's classic backpacking adventures.
Do I need a guide to trek in Pakistan?
It depends on the trek. Popular routes can often be tackled independently if you're experienced and properly prepared, while remote or high-altitude routes may require permits, local guides or organised support. Always check the latest requirements before setting off, as rules can vary between regions.
