    Panama Travel FAQs

What is the Panama Canal like to visit?

It's genuinely worth seeing, even if you've come to Panama for everything else. The Miraflores Visitor Centre near Panama City is the easiest place to watch ships passing through the locks and learn how the Canal works.

Is Panama good for adventure travel?

Very. Hiking, surfing, diving, snorkelling, jungle trips and island-hopping are all on the menu. Boquete is particularly popular for hiking and outdoor adventures, while the Pacific and Caribbean coasts offer plenty of opportunities to get in the water.

Are the San Blas Islands worth visiting?

Absolutely, especially if you want a taste of island life that's a little more remote. Expect tiny islands, turquoise water, snorkelling and a much slower pace of life. Most trips are organised through local operators and involve basic accommodation, so don't arrive expecting resort-style luxury.

    Is Panama expensive for backpackers?

Panama is one of the more expensive countries in Central America, particularly around Panama City and the popular islands. That said, hostels, local food and buses can keep things manageable, especially if you don't spend your entire trip hopping between expensive island resorts.
