Is Singapore worth visiting if you're travelling on a budget?
Singapore is one of Southeast Asia's more expensive destinations, but you don't need a huge budget to enjoy it. Stay in a hostel, eat at hawker centres and use the excellent MRT and bus network to keep costs down. You can also find plenty of free things to do, from exploring neighbourhoods to wandering the Gardens by the Bay.
Is Singapore easy to get around?
Very. Singapore has an extensive MRT and bus network that makes getting around the city quick and straightforward. Contactless bank cards and mobile wallets can also be used to pay for public transport, so there's little need to rely on taxis.
What should you eat in Singapore?
Food is a huge part of the Singapore experience, and hawker centres are the place to start. Look out for local favourites like chicken rice, laksa, char kway teow and satay, with plenty of affordable options compared with eating in restaurants.
Are there any unusual laws in Singapore?
Singapore is known for having strict rules around littering, smoking, chewing gum and public behaviour, although some of the claims you hear about Singapore laws are exaggerated. Littering is prohibited by law, and alcohol consumption in public places is restricted between 10:30pm and 7am. It's worth familiarising yourself with the local rules before you go.
