Siquijor is hands down one of my favourite places I’ve ever visited. The Philippines is already stupidly beautiful, but this little island has something extra going on that you feel the second you arrive.
Maybe it’s the quiet white-sand beaches or the cliff jumps that get your heart pounding out of your chest. Maybe it’s the flow of the waterfalls or the thriving marine world. Whatever it is, Siquijor has a sprinkle of magic that turned my week-long trip into a month-long stay.
You just have to go and experience it for yourself.
Because Siquijor isn’t as busy as its neighbouring big-name Filipino spots, figuring out where to stay can be a bit of a puzzle, especially if it’s your first time.
But don’t stress, I’ve got you. After spending a month exploring every corner of the island, I’ve gathered all the good stuff you’ll want to know before you book. This guide will walk you through exactly where to stay in Siquijor, so you get the best value and stay close to the spots you actually want to see.

San Juan
San Juan gives first-timers the easiest, most complete version of the island, with beaches, restaurants, and activities all in one place. It’s the one area where you can settle in without needing to plan much, because everything you need is close by!
Maria
Maria has the most dramatic coastline and secluded atmosphere, giving it a unique, off-the-grid feel that stands out from the rest of the island. It’s quiet, scenic, and perfect for travellers who want a steer clear of the crowds.
Larena Town
Siquijor isn’t an expensive destination, but if you’re watching your budget, you can always drop anchor at Larena Town, one of the island’s two seaports. This place isn’t super touristy, so prices are quite reasonable.
Lazi
Lazi has calm, spacious environment with a heap of nature activities that work well for kids and parents alike. It’s peaceful, safe, and close to waterfalls and heritage sites that make for easy family day trips!
A Guide to Siquijor’s Best Neighbourhoods
Siquijor was my favourite place I visited when backpacking in the Philippines. I was able to explore all of the neighbours and get a really good feel from them all. So, let’s take a closer look at each of them and see which will be best suited for you!
1. San Juan – Best Area to Stay For First Timers
Now, if you’re travelling to Siquijor for the first time and wondering where the heck to stay, I’ve got ya. San Juan is the easy win; everything you need is basically on one long stretch of road. You can roll out of bed, grab a coffee, hit the beach, and find dinner without stress.
Not only is San Juan one of the best places to stay in Siquijor for first-time visitors, but it’s also the ideal destination for travellers who’d like to experience a dash of nightlife!
Siquijor is a pretty small island, so it doesn’t have a super vibrant night scene as you see in hostels in Cebu or Manila, but San Juan Town does have a few bars and nightclubs.
I would advise you to visit San Juan during the weekend for a lively ambience. Because it’s located on the coast, San Juan offers quite a few resorts, including budget-friendly accommodations.
San Juan is also the best place to stay for water sports since it houses plenty of dive shops.
- Best For: First-timers, families, foodies, backpackers.
- The Vibe: Lively (but still chill), beachy
- Proximity to Airport: Far. Fly to Dumaguete + ferry to Siquijor, then ~20–30 minutes by road.
- Transport Level: Easy once on the island. Plenty of tricycles, rentals, and direct access to tours.
- Budget: Midrange options dominate, with some budget and boutique stays around
- Crowds: Popular, lively but manageable, especially around sunset and dining areas.

Things To Do in San Juan
- Visit the 400-year-old Old Enchanted Balete Tree.
- Take a dip in the Lugnason Falls. Try the 9m rope swing and ask for a guide to take you around the other 11 waterfalls behind the main one! 10/10 worth it.
- Catch sunset at Paliton Beach.
- Go snorkelling right off the shore
Nakabalo Guesthouse & Restaurant | Best Hotel
Travelers looking for the best place to stay in Siquijor may wish to check out this hotel, located just 1km from Maite Beach.
After an exhilarating day on the beach, you can always take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool before enjoying dinner at the onsite restaurant. It’s located in a fab position to make it easy to explore the best of the island.
Coco Gove Beach Resort | Best Resort
This uniquely designed resort is iconic on the island of Siquijor. Coco Grove Beach Resort is not only known for its quirky design but also its INCREDIBLE location, backing onto Tubod Marine Reserve (home to the best snorkelling on the island).
However, if snorkelling isn’t your thing, you won’t be short of things to do at this resort. Relax by the outdoor swimming pool, lap up the FREE breakfast or take advantage of their on-site restaurant and bar.
Fable Hostel | Best Hostel in San Juan
Offering 8-bed mixed and female-only dorms, Fable Hostel lies just a 15-minute’ drive from San Juan’s lively venues and it’s one of the best hostels in Siquijor.
Trust me when I say you’ll absolutely love the free-spirited beach vibes that permeate the hostel, which shouldn’t come as a surprise since Solangon Beach is just 2 km away!
Absolutely no complaints with this one, folks.
Magical Dome Home with Outdoor Jungle Hot Water Shower | Best Airbnb
If you’re after a unique stay in San Juan, this place is for you. These eco-conscious domes provide a tranquil escape hidden amongst Siquijor’s incredible mountainous nature. This accommodation is so much more than just a bed.
Not only do you get to hang out in your epic little domes but you also get to hang out in the chill areas. Whip up a meal in the fully-equipped kitchen, sip on a sunset San Miguel at the jungle bar or relax in a hammock while you take in the incredible views.
2. Maria – Coolest Place To Stay
Maria feels like the part of Siquijor that most travellers never quite make it to, which is exactly why I liked it so much. The coastline here is wild and dramatic, the kind of place where you pull over on your scooter just to marvel at the ocean for a minute or two.
It’s quiet, like proper quiet, so you can really get that off-the-grid feeling. Days here are slow and simple: sunrise over the ocean, empty beaches, cliff jumps (if you’re feeling brave).
If you want nightlife or a dozen cafés within walking distance, this isn’t your spot. In fact, this might not be the best Filipino island for you. But if you want a stay that feels different from the usual tourist trail, Maria hits the spot.
- Best For: Couples, slow travel, unique stays, scenic getaways.
- The Vibe: Quiet, secluded, “more off the beaten path”.
- Proximity to Airport: Far. Fly to Dumaguete + ferry + ~45–60 minutes by road.
- Transport Level: Remote. Best with a motorbike or private transfer; limited tricycles.
- Budget: Simple guesthouses and small boutique stays
- Crowds: Very low crowds, mostly locals, quiet beaches.

Things To Do in Maria
- Check out nearby dive sites like Coral Garden, Sawang, and Sunken Island.
- Escape the crowds at Kagusuan Beach, an isolated stretch of sand that few tourists know about.
- Cliff-dive with the locals at Saladoong Beach.
- Head up to Cambugahay Falls for a day of swimming and rope swinging (this spot gets very busy at the weekends and in the middle of the day as it’s one of the most popular tourist spots).
Jelly Sea Resort | Best Hotel
Wondering where to stay without breaking the bank or sacrificing your comfort? How about the Jelly Sea Resort, located smack in the town centre?
Guests can choose from various room configurations, including Deluxe Double or Twin rooms. All rooms boast complimentary toiletries and a balcony where you can kick back and relax while taking in those glorious ocean views!
Zosimo’s Inn | Best Hostel
Located just a 14-minute drive from Maria, Zosimo’s Inn is easily one of my favourite places to stay!
With a delightfully laid-back vibe, the hostel offers numerous room configurations, the Budget Double Room with free toiletries, a sun terrace and air conditioning.
Although not directly in Maria, it’s a great option if you’re happy to jump on scooter to explore.
White House Villa | Best Airbnb
Glorious mountain views and easy beach access beckon at this 3-bedroom villa. Perfect for families and groups of friends, the White House Villa offers all the comforts of home – and yes, that includes a modern, well-equipped kitchen where you can whip up your favourite meals.
There’s plenty to explore nearby, including Salagdoong Beach. After all that sightseeing, you can always soak in the onsite hot tub. Oh, and did I mention that pets are allowed?
3. Larena – Best Place to Stay in Siquijor on a Budget
If you’re counting pesos, Larena is your friend. Cheap eats, cheap rooms, and a proper local vibe that keeps your wallet from crying.
It’s the best area to stay when travelling on a budget. Larena isn’t as touristy as the rest of the island, since this is where most locals live. You won’t be faced with overly inflated prices when it comes to food and accommodations.
One of the things that I liked the most about staying in Larena was that it offered a delightful glimpse into authentic, Filipino-style living that’s totally off-the-beaten-track.
Because Larena is one of the two main seaports in Siquijor, it’s quite easy to hop on a ferry to explore other lush destinations. I mean, just in case you’re wondering how to get between islands!
- Best For: Budget travellers, practical stays, short stopovers, long-term travellers.
- The Vibe: Local, functional, port town vibes with everyday island life.
- Proximity to Airport: Far. Fly to Dumaguete + ferry directly into Larena Port.
- Transport Level: Well connected. Easiest arrival point, good for transfers and errands.
- Budget: Cheapest accommodation and food options on the island
- Crowds: Low-key, mostly locals, light tourist presence, busiest around the port area.

Things To Do in Larena
- Visit Tulapos Marine Sanctuary for some EPIC snorkelling.
- Check out the Farmer’s Market on Sunday.
- Take a day trip to nearby Lazi, known for its historical landmarks like the Lazi Convent.
- Head to Mount Bandilaan, located half an hour away.
- Visit Thornton’s Sea View Cafe for incredible views across the island.
D’s Oceanview Beach Resort | Best Hotel
Enjoy a relaxing stay smack in front of one of the most beautiful beaches in Siquijor! Guests can take their pick from various types of rooms, including suites, family rooms, two-bedroom bungalows, and deluxe cottages.
Personally, I’m more partial to the hotel’s studio, which offers plenty of amenities without breaking the bank. Best of all, the resort has a private beach area where you can chill in peace while savouring that gorgeous Philippines weather!
Aquamare Beach Camp Resort | Best Budget Accommodation
A quick 9-minute drive from Larena takes you to the Aquamare Beach Camp Resort, a place that promises boho vibes and beach access!
This epic Filipino Hostel has heaps of onsite facilities, including luggage storage space, watersport facilities, a 24-hour front desk, a bar, air conditioning and an outdoor swimming pool.
Thatched Villa for Two | Best Airbnb
A charming retreat for guests wondering where to stay in Siquijor, this thatched villa is located just a few steps from the ocean.
PRO TIP: Get those sea shoes on your Philippines packing list because the lagoon does house plenty of sea urchins!
4. Lazi – Best For Families
Let’s end the list of the best areas to stay in Siquijor with another one of my favourites! Lazi is easily among the coolest neighbourhoods on the island, mainly because of its unvarnished beauty. It’s a brilliant destination for families wondering where to stay in the Philippines with kids.
Lazi is super chill and wide?open, the kind of place where kids can run around without you stressing. Waterfalls, old buildings, and quiet roads make it an easy win for family days out.
Now, just because this place is secluded doesn’t mean it’s devoid of facilities. Quite the contrary, Lazi features several accommodation options, so you’re bound to find something that matches your budget and expectations.
- Best For: Families, nature lovers, culture seekers, relaxed travellers.
- The Vibe: Calm, rural, heritage-rich, surrounded by waterfalls and greenery.
- Proximity to Airport: Far. Fly to Dumaguete + ferry + ~30–40 minutes by road.
- Transport Level: Moderate. Easy to explore with a motorbike; tricycles available but less frequent.
- Budget: Affordable homestays, small resorts
- Crowds: Low-Key. Light crowds, mostly day-trippers to the famous Cambugahay Falls

- Hire a guide to explore the famous Sambulawan Underground River.
- Marvel at the Cambugahay Falls and embrace your adventurous side on the rope swing (head here early, this place gets BUSY!)
- Hop on a ferry to visit Cebu and the best Siquijor islands in the vicinity.
- Head over to Lazi Church and Convent – admire the old buildings and dive into the culture & history of the town.
Charisma Beach Resort | Best Hotel
Wake up to a free Asian or American breakfast every day with a stay at the Charisma Beach Resort!
Located just a few steps from Solangon, one of the most beautiful beaches in Siquijor, this hotel offers Queen Bamboo Rooms or Deluxe Rooms with private bathrooms.
Sand 1 Hostel | Best Budget Accommodation
If you’re wondering where to stay in Siquijor without exceeding your budget, I can recommend this super fun hostel, which is set half an hour from Lazi.
With a laid-back atmosphere, this hostel features free WiFi, a 24-hour front desk, a lounge, and a car hire, where you can book a vehicle to head into Lazi Town. Guests can also take advantage of the shared kitchen. Groups and families will be glad to learn that the hostel provides Family Bungalows and Family Rooms.
Mad Monkey | Best Hostel
This hostel needs no introduction. Many backpackers know of the infamous Mad Monkey Hostels. You either love em’ or you hate em’. But I for one, fall into the love em’ camp. They are the ideal place to meet other travellers to head out and explore with… or enjoy a few San Miguels with!
The Mad Monkey Hostel in Siquijor is located just outside of Lazi and is brand spanking new! It has a pool, bar, comfy beds and epic hang-out spots.
Enchanted River Cabin | Best Airbnb
Commanding a great location near the Enchanted River, this cabin comfortably sleeps one to two guests. One of the best places to stay in Siquijor, this cabin comes with a private garden and outdoor tub – perfect for a relaxing soak!
As the evening settles in, you can always rustle up a meal in the well-equipped kitchen before relaxing by the fire pit.

What is the best beach resort in Siquijor?
Coco Grove Resort is the best beach resort in my opinion. It provides a unique stay with its quirky but modern design. It’s got top-tier service, a restaurant and bar on-site, a swimming pool and a fitness centre. Not to mention the fact that it backs onto Siquijor’s BEST snorkelling spot – Tubod Beach.
Where is the best place to stay for couples in Siquijor?
Lazi is the best place to stay for couples. It’s got enough going on and is close to epic adventure spots and tourist attractions. However, it’s a bit more low-key than the likes of Siquijor Town or San Juan.

Which Part of Siquijor Should You Choose?
I’m sure by now you’ve realized that Siquijor is truly a paradise on Earth! It’s got everything from white, sun-kissed shorelines to glistening waters, caves, waterfalls, and excellent eats. There’s definitely something for everyone there!
If you’re still not sure where to stay in Siquijor though, I would say that Maria and San Juan are two pretty safe bets that are bound to match your budget and expectations.
I stayed in San Juan for a month and absolutely loved it. It has everything you need from funky cafes to local food spots. The beaches are beautiful and the extremely friendly locals welcome you in with open arms. I really noticed the Spanish influence on the island from the colours and churches to being greeted with “Como Estas!”.
If you’ve got some extra cash to splash, I’d recommend staying at Coco Grove Resort. Not only is it an incredible (and slightly quirky) beach resort, but it backs onto the BEST snorkelling spot I’ve ever been to.
