There’s zero doubt that the Philippines is one of the most exciting places to visit. After all, this tropical destination is made up of over 7,000 sun-soaked islands. Crazy, right?

Most tourists tend to flock to better-known areas like Cebu or Manila, but did you know that tucked away in the Central Visayan Islands archipelago is a tiny island known as Siquijor?

An absolute gem of a place, Siquijor is the kind of place that people escape to when they want a complete break from the mundane routine of their everyday lives. Given its abundance of natural beauty, it’s hard to imagine that the locals once feared Siquijor because it used to be at the center of dark legends and superstitions.

Because it’s not as frequented as other Filipino destinations, knowing where to stay in Siquijor can be an issue, especially if you’ve never visited the island before. But don’t worry- I have your back! (Don’t I always?)

In this post, I’ll guide you precisely on where to stay in Siquijor to ensure you get the best bang for your buck while staying close to the attractions you’d like to visit. So, let’s get right to it!

COOLEST PLACE TO STAY

Lazi Town

Let’s end our list of best areas to stay in Siquijor with another one of my favorites! Lazi Town is easily among the coolest neighborhoods on the island, mainly because of its unvarnished beauty.

Siquijor is one of the best islands in the Philippines. It’s tiny, though. So tiny that you can very easily take in the best sights in just a couple of days!

Maria Town is a great option for first-time visitors who want to experience authentic, island-style living. Foodies will no doubt enjoy munching their way through the many eateries and stalls speckled across the town.

Siquijor isn’t an expensive destination, but if you’re watching your budget, you can always drop anchor at Larena Town, one of the island’s two seaports. This place isn’t super touristy, so prices are quite reasonable.

If your plan is to party the night away, then look no further than San Juan Town! Close to the most beautiful beaches in Siquijor, San Juan is also one of the most animated neighborhoods on the island.

Families traveling with children can always consider staying in Siquijor Town, the island’s capital city. Offering easy access to the best caves, attractions, and beaches in Siquijor, this town is steeped in local history.

On the flip side, Lazi Town basically offers everything you need for a relaxing day trip, making it the ideal destination for travelers who’d like to get away from the crowds. One of the coolest places to stay in Siquijor, Lazi Town, is awash with natural beauty.

How’s this for a view?

Just a quick heads-up before we dive into that one, though: Maria Town is usually something of a weekend getaway destination for the locals, so it can get pretty crowded on Saturdays and Sundays. To get away from the crowds, I always avoid the weekends when visiting Siquijor.

In addition to historic buildings and family-owned eateries, Maria Town is especially known for its cliff diving opportunities. Fans of the great outdoors will no doubt enjoy easy access to the beach and surrounding hiking trails.

Traveling on a budget? Then the best area to stay in Siquijor is, no doubt, Larena Town, a thriving seaport and commercial center.

One of the things that I liked the most about staying in Larena Town was that it offered a delightful glimpse into authentic, Filipino-style living that’s totally off-the-beaten-track.

Because Larena Town is one of the two main seaports in Siquijor, it’s quite easy to hop on a ferry to explore other lush destinations. I mean, just in case you’re wondering how to get between islands!

Siquijor is a pretty small island, so it doesn’t have a super vibrant night scene like you see in hostels in Cebu or Manila, but San Juan Town does have a few bars and nightclubs.

I would advise you to visit San Juan during the weekend for a lively ambiance. Because it’s located on the coast, San Juan offers quite a few resorts, including budget-friendly accommodations.

5. Lazi Town – Coolest Place to Stay in Siquijor

Let’s end our list of the best areas to stay in Siquijor with another one of my favorites! Lazi Town is easily among the coolest neighborhoods on the island, mainly because of its unvarnished beauty.

Located well away from that overly trodden tourist track, Lazi Town offers plenty of seclusion. As such, this is the ideal place for slow travelers who want to disconnect from the daily grind and enjoy nature at its very finest.

Mesmerizing views from Lazi Town.

Now, just because this place is secluded doesn’t mean it’s devoid of facilities. Quite the contrary, Lazi Town features several accommodation options, so you’re bound to find something that matches your budget and expectations.

However, I do need to point out that this is the kind of laid-back destination that’s more about connecting with nature. If you’re looking to party the night away every night, this may not be the ideal neighborhood for you, since most places close pretty early in the evening.
