I’ll put my hands up and admit that Curaçao wasn’t somewhere I’d spent years dreaming about visiting. The first time I went was on a cruise and, if I’m honest, I didn’t know a huge amount about it beforehand.
What surprised me was how quickly it got under my skin. It felt a bit different to other Caribbean islands I’d visited. A bit more colourful, a bit more quirky, and a bit less like a place built entirely around tourism.
The downside? A few hours in port isn’t really enough. The more I looked into the island afterwards, the more I realised just how much I’d missed.
Curaçao isn’t huge, but different parts of the island offer very different experiences. Some are all about beach bars, restaurants, and being close to the action. Others are better if your idea of a good trip involves fewer people and a slower pace.
