What to Expect From Capsule Hotels in New York

Although known for its glitz, glamour, and expensive hotels, a trip to New York while traveling in the USA is essential. Luckily for us backpackers, capsule hotels in New York are more common than you might expect!

The main appeal of capsule hotels is that they are a more affordable option, as you can stay in popular areas of the city for almost half the price of a hotel.

With many people wanting to visit New York on a budget or who are quickly passing through the city on a work trip, capsule hotels offer a cheaper and sometimes more convenient option than booking into a hotel.

Speaking of hotel prices, it will cost you anywhere from $200 to $500 to stay in a New York capsule hotel. The price hugely depends on how far in advance you book and which season you visit. In terms of the types of capsule hotels in New York, you will find options for shared accommodation and capsule hotels that offer private rooms.

Some of these hotels allow you to stay for just a couple of nights, whereas others give you long-term access, usually up to fourteen days. They tend to have fewer facilities than a regular hotel, and the majority of them do not supply meals throughout the day, but with New York’s street food culture and restaurants, you’ll be just fine!

As for location, you can find capsule hotels throughout New York City, including Manhattan and right near Times Square, which means you’ll be close to the city’s top attractions!

If you’re looking for more budget-friendly options, you’ll find them beyond the Upper East Side, in neighborhoods like Brooklyn. While Brooklyn may be less touristy than Manhattan, it has its own charm and some pretty cool hidden gems. Plus, staying outside of the tourist-filled areas makes for a far less hectic kind of trip.

Overall, capsule hotels are also just a unique way to experience the city, especially if you’re traveling solo in the USA. Since they have more of a communal atmosphere, there’s a bigger opportunity to meet other people.

The 4 Best Capsule Hotels in New York

That was everything you needed to know about the best capsule hotels in New York. Now, let’s get into the best part: breaking down which capsule hotels are worth a visit!

1. The Pod Times Square | Overall Best Value Capsule Hotel in New York

The Pod Times Square in New York
  • Price: $159
  • Address: 400 West 42nd Street, Hell’s Kitchen, New York, NY 10036, United States

When it comes to the perfect, convenient location, it doesn’t get much better than The Pod in Times Square, so this had to go at the top of my capsule hostel in NYC list! Situated just 400 meters from Restaurant Row, this hotel is an excellent choice for travelers who love to experience all kinds of food on their trip.

And let’s be honest, New York is known for its delicious food culture featuring some of the best bagels and pizzas you will ever try.

You’ll also have easy access to some of New York City’s most iconic attractions. From Times Square to Broadway, you’ll never be far from something exciting! Despite their compact design, the pods inside are surprisingly spacious. Each room features a flat-screen TV, a private bathroom with a fitted shower, a hairdryer, and complimentary toiletries.

Why you’ll love this capsule hotel:

  • Nearby famous attractions
  • Lively socialising culture
  • Great views

Plus, each morning you wake up here, you’ll be waking up to stunning views. The New York City skyline definitely makes for an unforgettable trip. Whilst you’re here, fill your New York itinerary with Madame Tussauds, take a stroll through Bryant Park, and marvel at the breathtaking views from the Empire State Building. Seriously, this location is non-stop action.

You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to meet fellow travelers who are embarking on their own New York City adventure. This is because solo travelers often opt for capsule hotels for a cheaper (and far more social) experience. I’ve met some of my best friends in hostel-like experiences! You’ll be surprised at how many other travelers stay in hostels for that reason!

2. Pod Brooklyn | Best Budget Capsule Hotel in New York

Pod Brooklyn
  • Price: $135
  • Address: 247 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11211, United States

Pod Brooklyn offers a budget-friendly alternative to accommodations in Manhattan, as you’ll be staying in Brooklyn rather than the Upper or Lower East Side. However, this doesn’t mean you’ll have a negative experience. Brooklyn has a lot to offer!

By staying here, you’ll be close to some fantastic attractions. Make sure to check out the Music Hall of Williamsburg, known for its incredible live performances, and East River State Park, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline.

The accommodation itself is spread across four separate buildings. But they are all connected by scenic bridges with a cute courtyard in the middle. The courtyard is the perfect addition in the spring and summer, and a great place to start your morning while staying in New York!

Why you’ll love this capsule hotel:

  • Evening entertainment
  • Quieter location
  • Easy access to the subway station

As for the rooms, you’ll have everything you need. You’ll find modern amenities, including flat-screen TVs, private bathrooms, and complimentary toiletries, which all make for a comfortable stay.

Being outside of the tourist-filled locations in New York is a great option if you prefer to stay somewhere a little quieter. Sometimes, having space away from all the other tourists is the perfect way to plan your New York trip, especially if big crowds can leave you feeling overwhelmed and burnt out.

But if you’re worried about being too far from New York’s main attractions, don’t be! The nearest subway station is just 322 meters away. Here, you can take a trip to Manhattan or other areas in New York. That being said, there are also things to do in Brooklyn. Take some time to stroll in the scenic parks, visit the museums, and of course, see the Brooklyn Bridge up close!

Plus, if you’re in the mood for a night out, the famous Brooklyn Brewery is less than a one-minute walk away! Just be prepared for one heck of a hangover the next morning.

There are also female-only dorms, which are a great option if you’re a woman solo traveling and feel safer amongst your fellow ladies. If you’re passing through New York and want to keep up with the hectic lifestyle, this is the place to be.
