Korinbo
Korinbo is a neighbourhood located in southern Kanazawa. It is centrally situated and sits nestled between Kanazawa Castle Park and the Samurai houses of Nagamachi. This lively and vibrant neighbourhood is where you’ll find Kanazawa’s main shopping, dining and nightlife district.
Higashi Chaya
Our pick for the coolest neighbourhood in Kanazawa goes to Higashi Chaya. This beautiful district is located a short 15-minute walk northeast of the city centre. It sits on the northern shores of the Asano River and is the city’s traditional entertainment district.
Nagamachi
Nagamachi is a small neighbourhood best-known for its well-preserved Samurai houses. It lies at the foot of Kanazawa Castle Park and was where traditional samurai and their families used to reside.

The Kanazawa Station district is home to the main rail hub and is the first place most tourists see in the city. Although it doesn’t have many landmarks or attractions, this neighbourhood does boast great shops, tasty restaurants and a myriad of backpacker hostels and budget hotels.
The Higashi Chaya District is set to the east of Kanazawa Station. It is home to beautifully preserved buildings and houses, and is the perfect place to soak up the atmosphere of “Old Japan”.
Head south from here and you’ll arrive in Kenrokumachi. The green core of the city, Kenrokumachi is where you’ll find the city’s most famous attractions and landmarks, including Kenroku-en Garden.
Korinbo is a lively and vibrant district set to the southwest of Kenrokumachi. It is the city’s main entertainment district and is brimming with restaurants, bars, cafes and shops.
And finally, continue travelling west to Nagamachi. This small neighbourhood is home to a collection of well-preserved Samurai houses, narrow, winding alleys, and authentic mud walls.
