It’s got the kind of vibe that reminds you you’re actually in Vietnam rather than a beach resort that happens to be in Vietnam.
It’s also where you’ll find the cheapest beds in the city without being miles from the action. The beach is a short Grab ride away, coworking-friendly cafes are dotted around if you’re working remotely, and the food options are absolutely banging once you go hunting for menus sans English.
The tradeoff is that you’re doing a bit more legwork to get to the sand, and the vibe is more local city than coastal strip. But if you’re a digital nomad or on a trip longer than a few days and want Nha Trang to feel like somewhere rather than just a beach, this is the smarter base.

The beach itself is smaller and rockier than the main stretch but the namesake rock promontory jutting out into the bay is super cool, and paying the small fee to clamber up it gets you some epic views across the islands. Just north of here sits Hon Do, a small red island with a hilltop Buddhist temple that most visitors to Nha Trang never bother with.
The cafe and restaurant scene along the waterfront is low-key and good — acoustic sets in the evening, fresh seafood at non-tourist prices, the kind of place you sit down for one coffee and end up spending the whole afternoon there. Hon Tre Island is just off the coast of Nha Trang and you can get there via a short ferry ride. You leave the mainland behind, hop on a boat or that cable car dangling over the sea, and suddenly the chaos just… stops. It’s much quieter and more relaxing then other parts of the city, which is why it’s the perfect choice for families.
VinWonders Nha Trang is the island’s main event here. Water parks, rides, aquariums, and enough bright colours and noise to keep children entertained for hours. It’s the kind of place that can easily take up an entire day, and then some, which is what most families are hoping for by coming here.
Now, the trade-off. This place is polished. Very polished. Prices are higher, everything’s curated, and that messy, local, slightly chaotic Vietnam vibe is nowhere to be found. Street food? Not really. Random hidden gems? Not so much. You’re in resort territory here buddy. This isn’t my reccommendation for backpackers by any means, but for families, this works perfectly.

- The Vibe: Polished, resort-y, and removed from the chaos of the mainland
- Proximity to Airport: 50-65 minutes by taxi or Grab from Cam Ranh, plus the cable car crossing Transport Level: Limited – you’re largely contained to the Vinpearl complex, which is either a feature or a bug depending on what brings you to the island
- Budget: High end – there’s a noticable lack of hostels and budget guethouses, and resort prices apply across the board
- Crowds: Busy with families and tour groups, but spread across a large enough resort complex that it rarely feels overwhelming

Best Hotel on Hon Tam Island: Hon Tam Resort
Over on neighbouring Hon Tam island is this resort with the volume turned down. Super chill, super tranquil, but still easily accessible to to Hon Tre Island when you want to head to VinWonders. The whole place is beautiful and well thought out, with staff filling in all the gaps so you don’t have anything to do but relax. The food is yummy, with a varied breakfast served up every day.
