Ah, Koh Phi Phi. The backpacker’s paradise is known for its beaches, buckets and WILD nightlife… But with great popularity comes fierce competition; hostel beds fill up faster than you can say “full moon party.”

I’ve been living in Thailand for the past couple of years, and have done many a trip to the infamous party island. And what I can tell you is that Phi Phi’s hostels are super varied. If you’re not careful, you can fall into a party hostel where the walls shake until 5 am or into a quiet hostel where the only party animal is the hostel cat.

What I’m trying to say is, finding the perfect hostel in Phi Phi is harder than in other parts of Thailand. But fear not, that’s where I come in! I’ve organised this list of the best hostels in Phi Phi by who they are best suited for.

So grab your backpack, grab a bucket (or two), and let’s dive into finding your perfect Phi Phi pad!

Let’s take a closer look at each hostel

Most travellers in Thailand will end up washed up on Phi Phi at some point or another on their trip. It’s an island that can be made or broken by where you decide to stay. So, let me introduce you to the crème de la crème of Phi Phi’s hostels:

1. Voyagers Hostel – Overall Best Hostel

Voyagers Hostel Koh Phi Phi Thailand

Voyagers Hostel is a gem of a find in a killer location. Just a ten-minute stroll from the main pier, it’s close to the Tsunami Shelter, Ton Sai Beach and all of the nightlife action, yet far enough back for some solid shut-eye. The on-site café is perfect for a quick bite, and the outdoor seating is great for chilling with new friends.

Why you’ll love this place:

  • Social enough, but no pressure to party or get involved if you don’t want.
  • Away from the noise of the party street, but close enough to walk to it.
  • Free beach towel and snorkel to use.

The staff here are absolute legends. They’re always handing out free water, snacks, and coffee, and they clean the rooms meticulously multiple times a day. They even replace sheets and towels and fold your clothes if you leave them out. The vibe here is super social, and you’ll feel safe with access cards for hostel entry at night.

Wanna spend your nights drinking and partying with a cool crew, and your days on island-hopping adventures and lazing on glorious beaches? • Epic party vibes with beer pong tournaments, theme nights, pub crawls, open bars and happy hours.
  • Daily activities to explore the local area and get to know fellow backpackers.
  • Their famous Blanco Boat Party is epic and great for meeting people.

Roll out of bed and onto the idyllic Ton Sai beach. Blanco Beach Bar is literally steps away from the sparkling turquoise waters of Loh Dalum Bay. Whether you’re a sunrise enthusiast or a late riser, you’re in the perfect spot to catch the best views.

Listen up, party animals! A pumping Phi Phi pad, Blanco Central Hostel is one of my faves when it comes to a wicked party hostel. This place, along with its sister hostel Blanco Beach, is known on the island for its legendary boat parties. It’s one of the easiest ways to make friends backpacking in Thailand!

Why you’ll love this place:

  • Daily events and weekly party schedule, there is literally always something on.
  • Group booking allowed, but you need to give prior notice to make sure you can get the same room.
  • Comfortable dorm beds. Just bring some earplugs if you want to get some sleep 😉

Step outside and you’ll find many cool bars for even more fun, and the coolest beach bars are less than a five-minute walk away. Whether you’re hitting Ton Sai Beach, exploring local shops, or diving into the nightlife, everything is just a stone’s throw away.

It’s important to know that this is a party hostel before booking, and shit can be loud here at all hours.

Sweed Dee is another one of those hostels that hits the balance right between being close to the party but far enough away to be able to nurse your hangover in peace. You’ll find everything you need here: cosy beds, spotless bathrooms, and a warm, welcoming vibe – all in a prime location.

Why you’ll love this place:

  • In a great location, close to loads of restaurants and bars, but in a more peaceful area.

Dormsin is a classic Thai backpackers’ hostel. Warm and cosy, with a real sense of community. They pride themselves on having “the smartest, comfiest, most kitted out pods on the island.” The room is huge, and it doesn’t feel like you’re living on top of each other like other hostels. Just bring a pair of good earplugs, and you’ll be grand here!

Why you’ll love this place:

  • Pod-style dorms, with special double bed options for couples!
  • Solid discounts on bars/ activities on the island.
  • All linen is 100% cotton, plus they give you TWO hypoallergenic pillows. Sleeping on a dream.

There’s even a cosy seating area in the dorm rooms themselves if you want to stay in the recluse of the air-conditioning. And let’s be honest, I don’t blame ya. It’s the friendly vibe and the welcoming hosts that really make this place so special, though; it’s a solid choice for those wanting to have a base on this stunning Thai island for a while.

Get Yo Self Insured BEFORE Visiting Koh Phi Phi

As much as we want backpacking to always go smoothly, it’s often not the case. Cover your ass by getting some solid insurance before your trip to Thailand.

ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing.

They offer month-to-month payments, no lock-in contracts, and require absolutely no itineraries: that’s the exact kind of insurance long-term travellers and digital nomads need.

SafetyWing is cheap, easy, and admin-free: just sign up lickety-split so you can get back to it!
