Koh Phi Phi is famous for its beautiful beaches, crystal-clear blue sea, intriguing limestone formations and, of course, its parties. What made this island one of my favourites in Thailand was the absence of vehicles – no cars, no motorcycles, nada! The perfect location for you to completely relax and unwind.
However, an upsurge in tourists has somewhat oversaturated Koh Phi Phi, making it challenging to choose how to spend your brief stay on this stunning island.
So to help you, I’ve compiled this guide of where the best places to stay in Phi Phi are, including a load of hidden gems. These recommendations are suitable for all budgets so there’s something for everyone whether you’re larging it up or on a backpacker budget.
Are you looking to party the night away, explore verdant jungles, or get off the beaten path? This Koh Phi Phi neighbourhood guide has all the info you need to plan your perfect itinerary.

Backpacking the Thai Islands? Looking for a specific place to stay in Koh Phi Phi? These are my highest recommendations for places to stay in Koh Phi Phi.
Phi Phi Holiday Resort | Best Hotel in Koh Phi Phi
Unbelievable outdoor pools, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, and a bar with a view of the Andaman Sea make this Koh Phi Phi hotel my favourite. They can organise a variety of fantastic excursions, and it’s in a prime position. This former Holiday Inn beach resort is undoubtedly a solid choice for your Phi Phi getaway.
Dee Dee Sea Front | Best Hostel in Koh Phi Phi
This hostel is a personal favourite of mine and is one I always return back to when heading to Phi Phi. It has direct beach access, comfortable dorms (with curtains too!!) and is a five-minute walk from all the insane nightlife the island has to offer. It’s one of the only hostels far enough from the noise of the party that offers a good night’s sleep to nurse your bucket-induced hangover.
A Lovely Rustic Bungalow in a Prime Location | Best Airbnb in Koh Phi Phi
A quick stroll from all the best beaches and vibrant nightlife, this bungalow offers the ideal base for your Phi Phi adventure. Decked out with a pool and terrace perfect for soaking up some rays with a cocktail or Chang in hand.
You’re also never five minutes away from the buzz of the island yet far away enough to get a good night’s sleep. It’s a winner for me.
Ton Sai Village
Ton Sai Village is the best neighbourhood in Koh Phi Phi to stay in if you’re visiting for the first time. The village is situated on a low, sandy stretch of land that connects two hilly spurs.
Loh Dalum Beach
Loh Dalum is a lively and vibrant area situated just north of Ton Sai Village. It is an idyllic and exotic tropical paradise famous for its brilliant white sand beach, shimmering turquoise waters, breathtaking views and raucous party scene.
Laem Tong
Located on Koh Phi Phi’s northeastern shore is a lengthy stretch of golden sand known as Laem Tong. If you want to get away from Tonne Sai’s hordes of visitors and party animals, this little fisherman’s town is the perfect location to stay.
Long Beach
Long Beach is a popular destination situated in southwestern Koh Phi Phi. It is our top pick for where to stay in Koh Phi Phi for families because it has great beaches, lots of activities and a relaxed atmosphere.
Phi Phi is an archipelago of six small islands in Krabi Province, Southern Thailand, accessible by a short ferry journey from both Phuket and Krabi. When people ask about where to stay in Phi Phi, they most likely mean Phi Phi Don, which is where everyone stays in the region. However, there are other nearby islands that make up the remaining Phi Phi islands and are well worth a day trip.
Phi Phi, made famous by the film “The Beach” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is home to Maya Bay (one of the most beautiful places in Thailand), Bamboo Island, and a variety of colourful sea life beneath its turquoise waters. This, combined with the active nightlife that abounds on the beach, places Phi Phi amongst the best islands to visit in Thailand.
In this guide, I’ll tell you the best areas to stay in Phi Phi depending on budget, and what you want to get up to. The main four neighbourhoods in Phi Phi are Ton Sai Village, Loh Dalum Beach, Long Beach and Laem Tong.
Ton Sai Village, the heart, soul and centre of Koh Phi Phi’s action can be found as soon as you leave the ferry pier. It has great restaurants, beautiful beaches, and is home to some of the best hostels on Phi Phi island. This is why Ton Sai Village has my pick for the best neighbourhood to stay in Koh Phi Phi if you’re a Phi Phi newbie.
Loh Dalum Beach is the best area in Koh Phi Phi to stay in if you’re on a backpacker budget, just northeast of the pier. Here you’ll find an excellent selection of hostels and the best parties along the beach. Think fire shows, buckets, and lots of bad decisions made…
Laem Tong is the place to be if peace and quiet are what you’re looking for, situated in the north of the island. This is one of the more tranquil places to stay in Phi Phi because it’s off the beaten path, boasting a delicious selection of restaurants.
And finally, Long Beach is located on Koh Phi Phi’s southwestern shores. It is calm and serene, but still close enough to Ton Sai Bay to get a piece of the action. I recommend it especially for families because it has great beaches, a serene atmosphere, and plenty of things to see and do.
Koh Phi Phi’s Four Best Neighbourhoods to Stay in
Still not sure which is the best area in Koh Phi Phi to stay in? Don’t worry! In this next section, I’ll break down the best places in Koh Phi Phi to stay in much more detail by area.
1. Ton Sai Village – Where to Stay in Koh Phi Phi for Your First Time
Newbie? Ton Sai Village is the best neighbourhood in Koh Phi Phi to stay in if you’re visiting for the first time.
The village is situated on a low, sandy stretch of land that connects two hilly spurs. From shopping and dining to nightlife and pampering, Ton Sai Village is the hub that has something to offer for every traveller.
This is also one of the best places to stay in Phi Phi if you’re keen to explore the rest of the Phi Phi archipelago. From here you can hop on a longboat and cruise along the stunning waters of the Andaman Sea, to Koh Lanta, Maya Bay and beyond.
As it’s one of the busiest areas on the island, I’d consider whether you’d like something quieter during the height of the dry season as that’s when this neighbourhood sees the highest influx of tourists.
Panmanee Hotel | Best Midrange Hotel in Ton Sai Village
Panmanee Hotel is charming and cosy. It provides a range of features and facilities, including dry cleaning and luggage storage. Rooms are outfitted with A/C, refrigerators, cable/satellite channels, and private showers. This hotel is within walking distance of the best restaurants and shops in Ton Sai Bay.

You’re also never five minutes away from the buzz of the island yet far away enough to get a good nights sleep. It’s a winner for me.

3. Laem Tong – Most Tranquil Place to Stay in Koh Phi Phi

This secluded area is only accessible by boat, so you can fully experience this idyllic island. I believe that this is the most peaceful location to stay on Koh Phi Phi because of this.
If you, like myself, are happier by the sea, Laem Tong is a fantastic area to stay. Home to possibly the best sites on the island for scuba diving and snorkelling. It also provides excellent conditions for swimming and simply soaking up the rays on the sand.
Phi Phi Natural Resort | Best Midrange Hotel in Laem Tong
Phi Phi Natural Resort is conveniently located near Laem Tong. Its calm location is close to the beach and has easy access to restaurants and cafes. This hotel has 70 modern rooms and offers visitors modern amenities such as an outdoor pool, laundry facilities, and your own private beach. How swanky.

They can organise a variety of fantastic excursions, and it’s in a prime position. This former Holiday Inn beach resort is undoubtedly a solid choice for your Phi Phi getaway.
P P Erawan Palms Resort | Best Resort in Laem Tong
Without a doubt, this is one of Koh Phi Phi Island’s top affordable beach resorts. This chic three-star Ko Phi Phi resort in Laem Tong has cosy, contemporary accommodations. It features a striking outdoor pool, and the bar is a terrific place to enjoy cocktails while watching the sunset.
Things to See and Do in Laem Tong

Popular destination Long Beach is located in Koh Phi Phi’s southwest. Families deciding where to stay on Phi Phi should definitely consider it because of its wonderful white sand beaches, abundance of activities, and laid-back vibe.
This is an excellent place to stay for travellers who are looking for a break from the craziness of Ton Sai Village and Loh Dalum. Long Beach is just a short five-minute-long boat ride from the centre of the action. So, if that’s your thing, you can still enjoy the buzz of Phi Phi without having to deal with the throngs of backpackers and buckets.
