The team here really know what backpackers in Sri Lanka are after, creating a space that feels more like a laid-back community than just a bed for the night. And to be fair I can spend ages just staring at this absolute beauty of a building.

This hostel has the kind of energy that makes it impossible not to meet people, so you’ll always find a spot to strike up a conversation or just soak in the vibe. The leafy garden also boasts hammocks that swing lazily in the tropical breeze. Galle, like the rest of Sri Lanka, is ultra-friendly on the budget. I’m a big fan! The hostels here will barely set you back a tenner. The theme is generally basic rooms, a decent breakfast, and chilled vibe. Galle isn’t Ibiza so don’t expect monstrous party hostels. There’s still Backpack Beach Hostel & Reggae Bar though if you wanna get a little loose and boogie to the beat.

If you’re still torn on where to stay, Old Parkland Hostel is my number one pick. It’s cosy, social, and in the perfect spot to explore. Plus it’s incredibly serene. The architecture kinda reminded me of temples in Myanmar in a weird way.

I wouldn’t say Galle was my highlight of Sri Lanka, it’s a little less interesting than Ella and Kandy among other spots. But 3 nights is what I’d recommend. You can spend a little longer if you come here for cricket though.
