With seemingly endless coastline and infinite chill vibes, Taghazout was my all-time favourite destination when backpacking in Morocco. That intoxicating mix of calm and chaos, the smell of spices and the sea air, there’s real magic here.
Most surf hostels in Taghazout are right on the beach, making getting out on the waves as easy as can be. A mere $15 can get you a crashpad and a beach view. You can wake up to a traditional Moroccan breakfast, zip up your wetsuit, and walk over to the best breaks. Yeww, how’s that for Pura Vida?
I try to head out to Taghazout at least once a year to chill out and catch a few waves. It’s getting busier as the years pass, that’s for sure, but it’s still got that laid-back surfy vibe it’s always had.
With so many travellers landing here, plenty of hostels have popped up to house us! So many that it can be rather overwhelming to decide where to stay. That’s why I’ve put together this list of the five best hostels in Taghazout to help you make the perfect choice 🙂 Let’s get into it!

There are plenty of hostels in Taghazout, each offering something a little different to the last. These are my favourites:
1. Roof House Hostel – Overall Best Hostel
- Price: $$
- Best for: Surfers, solo travellers, long‑term backpackers, community vibe
- Highlights: Ocean view, roof-top terrace, social vibes
- Dorms from: $20
- Private rooms from: $40
- Location: In the heart of Taghazout, a 2-minute walk from one of the best beaches in Morocco, just behind the mosque
Roofhouse is one of my favourite places to stay in Morocco. There is just something special about it. It’s warm, social and surf-loving with some of the best rooftop views in Tagazhout (hence the name!) With panoramic views of the ocean, you can even get a peek at the waves rolling into Anchor Point, the main advanced surf spot.
Why you’ll love this hostel:
- It’s surf-centric – you can hire boards and wetsuits, book surf lessons and join guided surf trips.
- Epic rooftop scenes with a view of the sea
- Social, community feel – music and sunset vibes.
I ended up extending my stay twice because I loved it so much! Everyone in the hostel is so warm, from the owners with HUGE smiles to the staff who eased my stress from solo travelling. With all the love in this place, I never felt alone.
2. Happy Surf Hostel – Best Value for Money
- Price: $
- Best for: Surfers, solo travellers, budget backpackers, community
- Highlights: Rooftop terrace, great breakfast, surf trips, 4‑minute walk to the beach
- Dorms from: $15
- Private rooms from: $35
- Location: Taghazout Centre. 300-400 m from the beach, close to cafes, surf shops
Happy Surf Hostel was one of the best value-for-money hostels in Morocco that I came across. Although the price points are very similar to other hostel options in Taghazout, I found the value better here, mainly due to the yummy Moroccan breakfast included. Every day started with a nice warm Moroccan mint tea, served with cubed sugar on the side, boiled eggs, and warm Khubz bread.
Why you’ll love this hostel:
- Rooftop with epic views and traditional Moroccan sofas
- Great value for money
- Free and delish Moroccan breakfast
I booked a private room for $35 USD a night, including breakfast. Split between my travel buddy and me was about $17.5 each per night. Although the prices tend to go up during high season, if you book ahead of time, you should be able to snag a good deal. If you were worried that Morocco would be expensive, then this place can surely put your mind at ease.
3. The Surf Hostel – Best for Solo Travellers
- Price: $$
- Best for: Surfers, solo travellers, social backpackers
- Highlights: Ocean views, BBQ nights, Friday couscous, surf lessons, gear rental, movie nights, jam sessions, two lounges, fully equipped kitchen
- Dorms from: $16
- Private rooms from: $41
- Location: Near Panorama Beach and Hash Point, right in the centre of Taghazout
The Surf Hostel was started by a family around 10 years ago and has provided good vibes ever since. They offer guests many activities, from movie nights on the roof to surf lessons, surfboard rental trips to Paradise Valley trips. Make sure to stick around for the free couscous on Fridays!
Why you’ll love this hostel:
- Best social hostel in town, with daily events
- BBQ dinner every Sunday and Thursday
- Top-tier location in the centre of Taghazout
The hostel offers mega comfortable rooms and great communal areas for socialising. It’s a hidden gem that combines surfing, culture, and camaraderie. Just don’t forget to bring cash! They do not take card payments.
4. Talia Surf Morocco – Best for Couples
- Price: $$
- Best for: Couples, mellow surfers, travellers who want a peaceful stay
- Highlights: Welcoming hosts, oceanview rooftop, shared kitchen, peaceful atmosphere
- Dorms from: $16
- Private rooms from: $32
- Location: Near Taghazout Beach (3 minutes on foot), just off the main road.
Karim and Mohammed are the kind of hosts who welcome you in with a warm energy that makes you feel at home as soon as you arrive. The hostel has a mellow, social energy and a rooftop, which is ideal for meeting people or just relaxing. Every time I went to the top floor, music was playing, people were playing cards, or someone was strumming a guitar. You know the vibe!
Why you’ll love this hostel:
- Shared kitchen for whipping up your own meals
- Social but chill vibes, always someone around to chat to
- Kind and welcoming hosts
Ask about the cooking classes! I learned how to make Couscous in Taghazout and still make it today. The hostel occasionally offers some awesome cooking classes using fresh ingredients from the local souk.
5. Azoul Hostel – Best for Beginner Surfers
- Price: $$
- Best for: Budget backpackers, surfers, solo travellers, long‑term stays
- Highlights: Rooftop terrace, ocean views, friendly staff, surf rentals, communal kitchen, relaxed vibe, free breakfast
- Dorms from: $16
- Private rooms from: $41
- Location: Near Panorama Beach, a short walk to the sand, cafes, surf shops, and the main street
Azoul is another brilliant budget pick in Taghazout, as it also includes breakfast and some nights dinner! These shared food experiences are an ideal way to meet people. It’s another hostel with a cosy rooftop with epic reviews – the perfect spot to start and end your day. There is a communal kitchen, which is ideal for the budget backpackers among us, trying to keep the costs down.
Why you’ll love this place:
- Free breakfast and family dinner nights
- Chilled but social vibes
- Walking distance from beginner waves
The location is ideal for beginner surfers, right by Panorama Beach. You’ll be in the thick of the action – close to cafes, restaurants and surf shops. It’s central enough, but you can enjoy some quiet as it’s tucked just far enough away from the busy part of the village.
Getting Insured Before Visiting Taghazout
Always arrange your insurance before your trip, especially if you’re heading on a surf trip to Taghazout! It’s not fun when things go wrong, and it’s even less fun when you have to pay for it yourself. Get yourself covered with some good travel insurance and send the bill to your insurance company 🙂

Still not sure where to stay in Taghazout?
Taghazout has become a backpacker dream. Chill hostels, rooftop views, cheap food and endless surf! It’s the perfect place to relax, drink some mint tea and eat your weight in tagine. There is a magical energy to this little surf town, and it can be rather addictive. My advice: book a couple of nights more than you think 😉
If you’re still not sure exactly which hostel you want to book, I’d recommend locking in Roof House Hostel. You can’t really go wrong – with social vibes, walking distance to the beach and an EPIC rooftop looking over the sea. It’s a surf-centric pad, so you’ll easily be able to rent a board or find yourself an instructor by talking to the hosts.
