Nestled in the Bay of Naples, Capri island is famous for its epic natural beauty, luxurious atmosphere, and its historical significance.
I bet you’ve never heard of the Blue Grotto, or Grotta Azzurra as it’s known locally. This sea cave allows in sunlight through an opening in the roof, creating a magical blue glow in the water. It’s an absolute must-see when visiting the island.
Then there are the Faraglioni Rocks, a collection of three towering limestone sea stacks that offer breath-taking views from both land and sea.
The island also has a rich, historical significance that was shaped by its strategic location the the Mediterranean Sea as well as its role in Roman history. Emperor Tiberius made Capri his primary residence and built several villas on the island. .

15 Top Things to Do in Capri
With its picturesque scenery stacked with plenty of opportunities for relaxation, culture, and, of course, adventure, Capri is an absolute must-visit destination on any trip to Italy.
Here are some of the most epic things to do on the island that are bound to get the juices flowing:
1. Marvel at the Beauty of the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra)

Kicking off the list of best things to do in Capri for 2025 is none other than the Blue Grotto or Grotta Azzurra as it’s known locally. And what makes it so epic? Well, the natural wonder is known for its mesmerising blue light that illuminates the water inside it as sunlight filters through an underwater opening.
You can access the inside of the grotto by means of small row boats, as you duck to pass through its narrow entrance. It’s quite the adventure and an unmissable activity on the island. The grotto is also surrounded by lush greenery and towering, rugged limestone cliffs that add to the stunning scenes that you’ll encounter.
2. Fly High on the Chairlift Up to Mount Solaro
Fancy some epic views over the Bay of Naples and surroundings? Well then, you have to take the chairlift up to Mount Solaro when visiting Capri. Once you reach the top, you’ll be treated to insane panoramic views of what is one of the most beautiful islands in Italy, as well as the famous Faraglioni rock formations (more of those later on).
But you know what they say, it’s about the journey and not the destination. In this case, the destination is epic, but the ride up is pretty sweet too, as you ascend to 589 meters above sea level. From the summit, you’ll have a 360-degree perspective of the island, the Tyrrhenian Sea, and some of the neighbouring islands. This isn’t something for those who are afraid of heights, unfortunately. You might want to head to the beach or grab a chilled glass of Pinot Grigio instead.
3. Explore Below the Surface on a Snorkelling Tour
Now, as incredible as terra firma is in Capri, there is a whole other world below the surface of the ocean. The waters off the coastline are crystal clear and are teeming with marine life, making them ideal for swimming and, of course, snorkelling. The island is littered with coves, grottos, and caves that are just begging to be explored, and with these come incredible spots for sub-surface exploring.
There are plenty of vibrant fish, marine plants, and diverse underwater marine ecosystems that can be explored by both beginner and experienced snorkelers. If you have your own gear with you, then you can discover the waters yourself, but I’d recommend going on an organised excursion. The waters can be dangerous if you don’t know them, so rather head out with the experts.
4. Paddle Your Way Through the Grottos
Now, who doesn’t love a fun kayaking session as you cascade the waters, take in the scenery, and have a dip? You can see why it’s one of the best things to do in Capri in the summer months when the sun is shining and the living is easy. The island is full of caves, coves, and grottos that you can explore while paddling your way around the island.
You also get a completely different perspective from the water as you glide past iconic landmarks like the Faraglioni rock formations. The other upside is that kayaks can reach areas that larger boats can’t, so it’s definitely a more personal and intimate way to discover the island.
5. Pay a visit to the famous Faraglioni Rock Formations
Right, finally I can talk about the Faraglioni rock formations – woohoo! These striking rock formations are dramatic and hold an iconic status on the island. These three massive sea stacks rise out of the water like a Phoenix out of the flames, creating a stark contrast with the island’s rugged coastline.
They are also one of the most photographed and recognised landmarks in the entire Mediterranean Sea, so a visit to them cannot be missed. You can also view the rock formations from different perspectives, land, sea, or nearby cliffs, and some daredevils even attempt to climb them. But be warned – it’s dangerous and access is strictly regulated, so don’t go finding yourself on the wrong side of the law!
6. SUP Your Way Around the Island
SUP bro! One of the best activities in Capri (in my ever so humble opinion) is to go stand-up paddle boarding (SUP’ing) around the island. SUP’ing allows you to get up close and personal with nature and immerse yourself in the stunning natural beauty of the island. You can paddle along the coastline and discover the grottos and local caves, as well as visit the famous Faraglioni rock formations.
Another really cool thing to do is tap into your inner Christopher Columbus and go explore some of the local beaches, it’s honestly one of my favourite things to do in Italy. You can easily dock your paddleboard on the beach and relax, swim, and tan before heading out again. Just be careful not to knock out your fin in the sand – you’ll thank me for this advice later!

Sailing, sunsets, and sipping on a drink are three of my favourite things in the world. And all together in one activity? Sign me up! Jumping aboard a sailing boat and heading out on the Tyrrhenian Sea for a sunset cruise is one of the must-do things in Capri in the summer months. It combines the magic of a Mediterranean sunset, which, if you didn’t know, gets even more magical as the sun begins to dip below the horizon. Make sure to at least stay a night on Capri to fully enjoy a sunset cruise.
As the wind blows through your hair, you’ll be sipping on your favourite cocktail or aperitif, with the gentle sound of the waves. It’s also a great perspective to experience Capri from, and many sailboats will combine visiting some of the famous sights of the island.
8. Whip Around the Island on a Scooter
There’s nothing quite like the freedom of riding a scooter as you discover a new place, especially somewhere like Capri. You don’t have to rely on public transport or the strict timing of an organised tour, so you can move at your own pace. There are quite a few steep hills and narrow, winding roads to navigate that are perfect to tackle on a scooter. While a bicycle is fun, you’ll be permanently sweaty, and no one likes a sweaty Betty!
It’s also quick and easy to zip between popular sites like the Piazzetta, Gardens of Augustus, and the Marina Grande. You can take it one step further and even rent yourself a classic Vespa. They’re super cool and another fun way to explore the island in a more personalised and connected way.
9. Explore Anacapri and Discover Some of the Local Cuisine
Now, if you’re anything like me, you love to explore new towns and places when you travel. It’s a great way to learn about the culture, and it really allows you to immerse yourself in the local way of life. Another way to discover a place is through its food. It’s one of my favourite aspects of travel, and you know what they say, the way to a person’s heart is through their stomach.
Anacapri is a much more tranquil, authentic, and less touristy experience when compared to the bustling town of Capri. The beautiful streets are lined with whitewashed buildings that really give off a feeling of relaxation and chilled island vibes. Some notable dishes to try when visiting are the Caprese salad, Frittura di Paranza, and the famous Ravioli Capresi.

Speaking of ravioli, one of the best things for food lovers to do in Capri is to learn how to make ravioli like a local. Let’s face it, Italy has a rich culinary history, and Capri is no different. There is a strong food culture, and many dishes are passed down from generation to generation, with recipes often being closely guarded secrets. You’ve just got to make time in your Italy itinerary for some pasta making, so why not here in this most beautiful location?
Ravioli Capresi, in particular, is one of the island’s signature dishes, filled with a mixture of delicate ricotta and herbs. Imagine being able to learn how to make this and then hosting a dinner party back home, only to recreate the dish. You will literally blow people’s minds. Heck, you’ll probably blow your own mind too!
11. Savour the Taste of Locally-Made Limoncello
Limoncello is believed to have been created by a local family on Capri Island way back in the early 1900s. By combining lemon zest, alcohol, sugar, and water, the refreshing local speciality was born and is now consumed around the world as a digestif. What better way to enjoy this zesty digestif than on the very shores where it was created?
You can hop on a local tour and taste the fruits of the local producers’ labour, or simply order one in a restaurant at the end of your meal. The former, however, is a great way to learn how to make it yourself so you can wow all your friends back home. Just when you thought you couldn’t get more popular!
12. Explore the Gardens of Augustus
The Gardens of Augustus are a must-visit sight in Capri, renowned for their serene atmosphere. I’m a huge fan of seeking out botanical gardens to sit, relax, and ponder life. And these beautifully landscaped gardens are just great for this. The gardens feature vibrant flowers, peaceful pathways, and lush greenery that bring about a state of ataraxia when paying them a visit.
The gardens are located near the famous Via Krupp and provide stunning panoramic views of the island, including the Faraglioni rock formations and Marina Piccola. It’s a great morning or afternoon that’s fun for the whole family or for a romantic stroll as a couple.
13. Take a Stroll Along the Via Krupp
Speaking of strolls, you have to check out the Via Krupp when visiting Capri. The scenic pathway carries historical significance, built by German industrialist Alfred Krupp in the early 1900s. The winding pathway that is carved into the cliffs is made up of a series of hairpin bends and provides epic views of the island’s rugged coastline.
The pathways zigzag up the cliffside and were once used as a private road up to Krupp’s villa. When it is open, the Via Krupp provides a thrilling experience that is challenging yet rewarding. Always check first for local updates as to the status of accessibility, as it has been closed on occasion due to rock slides and other safety concerns.

Hide Yo’ Money!14. Discover Emperor Tiberius’ Famous Villa Jovis
Villa Jovis isn’t any old villa – it was one of the grandest villas on the entire island, built by Emperor Tiberius in the 1st century AD. The villa served as his primary residence during much of his reign, perched high up on a cliff. The site provides insane views of the island and the surrounding Mediterranean Sea, and it’s easy to see why Tiberius settled there.
It also casually happens to be the largest and best-preserved of all the Roman villas on the island, complete with terraces, baths, and living quarters. The popular archaeological site is open to the public, accessed by a steep pathway that ascends up from the town. Set aside a morning or evening hike to head up and check out the epic views!
15. Kick Back and Relax at Marina Piccola
Last, and certainly not least on the list of epic things to do in Capri, is to kick back and relax at the picturesque Marina Piccola. After all this busyness and exploring, I thought I’d suggest something a bit more chilled for some downtime at the end of your trip. The harbour is located on the southern coast of Capri and is by far one of the most beautiful and tranquil spots on the island.
The atmosphere is also great, charming and inviting, with plenty of small beach clubs and restaurants to choose from. It’s a much more scenic and peaceful alternative to the more popular and crowded Marina Grande, accessible by bus, boat, or on foot.

How to Get Around Capri
Getting around Capri Island is relatively simple, as there are a number of transport options to choose from. The island is only around 10.4 square kilometres (4 square miles,) but don’t let that fool you – the hilly terrain can be quite challenging to navigate on foot.
Here are some of the main ways to get around the island:
Buses
There are local buses on the island that run between Capri and Anacapri. They are a convenient way to get to various points around the island, although they do tend to get pretty crowded during the peak season. A single journey will cost just over $2, while a full-day pass will set you back about $10.
Funicular Railway
A pretty fun and scenic way to navigate parts of the island is on the funicular railway. The funicular connects the town of Capri with Marina Grande, the main port on the island. It’s a quick way to get to and from the heart of the island, with a single ticket costing around $3 and a return costing around $6.
Scooter/Vespa Rental
A faster way to get around that gives you much more freedom is to hire a scooter or even better, a Vespa scooter. You can whip around the island in style, wind through your hair with your significant other on the back. A regular scooter will cost between $38 and $55 a day, while a Vespa will set you back about $65.
Private Boat/Taxi Boat
Lastly, you can get around the island and see various attractions by means of a private or taxi boat. It’s a great way to navigate the coastline and stop off at various coves and famous attractions like the Blue Grotto. Expect to pay about $22 – $44 for a group boat tour, and upwards of $160 for a private boat.
