Ahhh, fair Verona where we lay our scene… Used as the backdrop for Shakespeare’s famous Romeo and Juliet, it goes without saying that Verona is romantic.

With the blue tranquil waters of Lake Garda and the Adige River, you will find all the best of the world’s natural beauty. As well as this, the age-old Piazza Delle Erbe, the Verona Cathedral and the historic centre of man are all showcased within Verona.

There is more than enough in Verona that will have you packing your bags in a heartbeat! But once you start looking over the hostels and budget hotels available you may find yourself discouraged as you shut your laptop. Despite the pull of tourists to Verona, there is a lack of backpacker dorms available in the city.

I’ve made traveling to Verona easy for everyone! With my one-stop guide, you will be able to find all the best hostels in Verona that can suit the budget of any traveler!

Before you know it you will be people-watching in the piazzas and exploring the museums, your Verona holiday awaits… So without further ado, let’s get into my tour of Verona hostels.

The 5 Best Hostels in Verona

Need some assistance in choosing where to stay in fair Verona? Each of the hostels and guesthouses is a little different from the last, so keep your eyes peeled for a stay that fits your style!

1. The Hostello – Best Overall Hostel in Verona

best hostels in verona bright outdoor terrace with colourful chairs and a shady area to sit
The Hostello is my pick for the best overall hostel in Verona
  • Dorm (mixed): From $44
  • Address: Via Venti Settembre 80, 37129 Verona, Italy

The awards that this fine Italian hostel has collected over the years speak for themselves. The Hostello is your go-to backpacker’s hostel for budget travellers looking for a chill, laid-back atmosphere to hang out and meet other travellers. With its boutique hostel style and bright, sunny rooms, you will find no better place in Verona to simply kick back and relax.

The style is not the only thing that will have you falling in love with this hostel. The garden, cafe, and shared kitchen will have you feeling right at home in the heart of the city. Top it off with free breakfast served every morning, there isn’t much that this backpacker’s hostel doesn’t offer!

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Book exchange
  • Linen included
  • Airconditioning

Set in a great location, within walking distance (a 15-minute walk) to Juliette’s house in the city centre, this Verona hostel is a dream to stay in. Feel looked after by the free breakfast, a welcome feeling when you’re on the road I reckon. Then, fuelled up, make your way from this central location out to see the sights like the Verona Cathedral, and the Piazza delle Erbe.

When you’re done for the day, loaded up on pizza and gelato, and ready to crash, the comfy beds at The Hostello will welcome you. There are female-only dorms and mixed dorms, spread over four floors each with an ensuite. Most rooms have a balcony so you can look out to the street and all rooms have air conditioning, personal lockers, tables and chairs.

2. Comfy Room near Juliette’s House – Best Accommodation in Verona for Solo Travellers

Comfy Room near Juliette's House Verona Italy
  • Private Room: From $66
  • Address: Verona, Veneto, Italy

Say with Nadia in her city centre home if you’re on the road alone because you love your space. It’ll feel like a luxurious splurge with the lush furnishings in the apartment but in reality, the price is on par with Verona hostels. At Nadia’s apartment, you’ll have two bedrooms and a bathroom mostly to yourself (she lives upstairs).

This is a great option for a solo traveller in my opinion. You’ll have your freedom to explore Verona but you’ll have the intimate knowledge of this city on hand if you want it.

Why you’ll love this apartment:

  • City and river views
  • Lock on the bedroom door
  • Kitchen

Nadia’s apartment has a kitchen you can use too (for an extra cost) and she’s a barista so has all the hot tips. Ask her where to find good food, or activities for your time here in Verona and you’ll have a blast. Romance yourself in this sweet apartment and enjoy being within walking distance of all the hot spots.

You’ll have your own bathroom and bedroom if you choose to stay here. Naida is respectful of your space but happy to help if you ask. This is a great option if you’re happy flying solo.

3. Verona Stravagante Hostel – Best Cheap Hostel in Verona

Best Cheap Hostel in StraVagante Hostel outdoor terrace with a bright mural and seating
Verona StraVagante Hostel is my pick for the best cheap hostel in Verona
  • Private Room: From $97
  • Address: Via Gianattilio dalla Bona 8, Borgo Milano – Stadio, 37138 Verona, Italy

As travellers can well see, Verona is not exactly swimming in tons of options for budget hostels and guesthouses. Lucky for you Verona StraVagante Hostel is going to hook you up with the cheapest beds in all of Verona. And, this Verona hostel will also give you a unique experience which will have you reminiscing about Verona for the rest of your life!

With the garden, onsite restaurant, and bar, you will never have to worry about finding a place to grab a bite to eat or drink. What really will sell you on Verona StraVagante Hostel is the fact that you will be staying right smack in the middle of Verona. Perfect to take a short walk to whatever corners of this ancient city you want to see.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Onsite Bar and restaurant
  • Family Rooms
  • Free wifi

Another thing to love is the central location of this Verona hostel, putting you just a short walk from Castelvecchio Museum and the Verona Arena! The city centre is full of things to do and see for free. I could spend a whole day at the Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore, soaking up the history and watching the people pass by.

At Verona Stravagante Hostel, there are rooms from twin or double setups right up to rooms with beds for four. The air conditioning cranks, the rooms are clean and the staff are friendly.

4. Gabanel Bike Hostel – Best Party Hostel in Verona

Gabanel Bike Hostel Verona Italy
  • Dorm (mixed): From $32
  • Private Room: From $75
  • Address: Località Gabanel n. 124, 37012 Bussolengo, Italy

Ok sooooo, this is a stretch for a party hostel, but it would be a great place to have a party with your homies! And, it’s got a bar and a pool. Built in an old Villa on the hill that passes through the Morenic Hills, this place is stunning.

There’s a big lounge and a kitchen that you can get cookin’ in – which I highly recommend, you’re a bit out of town here. You can enjoy your dinner party (see what I did there?) at the dining table indoors or eat al fresco on the outdoor terrace. The garden is lined with trees so your party will be private even though the road is close by.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Swimming Pool
  • Lots of room for activities
  • Laundry facilities

There aren’t many hostels around as I’ve already said, but when you compare prices, this guy comes in pretty cheap. The top floor of the villa is set up with a private room that sleeps up to four people with an ensuite. I’m loathe to say it under this party hostel title but, this is a great option for families.

There is of course a dorm room on the ground floor which can sleep up to six people. There’s free breakfast included when you stay at Gabanel Bike Hostel as well as linen which is epic if you’re bikepacking!

Location-wise, it’s about 14kms out of Verona town which is nothing on a bike… But if you’re limited to public transport, this is something to keep in mind. The pay off of course is that you’re only a 10-minute drive from Verona but staying in idyllic Italian countryside.

5. Agriturismo Alle Torricelle – Best Hostel for Digital Nomads in Verona

Agriturismo Alle Torricelle digital nomads in Verona lush victorian furnishings in a double bedroom
Agriturismo Alle Torricelle is our pick for best hostel for digital nomads in Verona
  • Private Room: From $66
  • Address: Via Bonuzzo Sant’Anna 4, 37128 Verona, Italy

While living on the road as a digital nomad, you will eventually need to find a nice quiet place to call home for a few days. For just a few more euros than the dorm rooms, you can move into the budget sunny and spacious rooms of Agriturismo Alle Torricelle. With its elegant vintage design and open terraces, this is a hotel you will never want to check out of.

Putting you a bit outside of the city, this guesthouse will have you up close and personal with the breathtaking Italian countryside. And with the sites of the downtown just a few kilometres away, you are truly getting the best of both worlds!

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Airport shuttle
  • Free wifi
  • 10 minutes from the city centre

While there isn’t a designated co-working space, there are lovely tables outdoors in the shade of the grape vines on the terrace. There are restaurants and cafes in Verona you can park up and get work done if you need to. It’s only a 10-minute scooter ride into town, within walking distance if you have a good backpack… Ok, that miiiight be a stretch.

Enjoy being tucked away in the hills on this family farm and feel the real Italy. If you fall in love with Agriturismo completely, you can purchase their homemade products to take with you to you on your travels.

6. Protezione della Giovane Female Only Hostel

Protezione della Giovane Female Only Hostel Verona Italy
  • Dorm (mixed): From $27
  • Address: Via Pigna 7, Verona Historical Centre, 37121 Verona, Italy

To ma laaadiessss! Protezione della Giovane translates to protection of the young and that’s what this hostel aspires to do. Providing a safe space for young female adventures to stay in the historic heart of Verona is a valiant effort if ever I saw one.

The rooms are spacious and calm and staying here makes for an unforgettable trip. The staff are friendly and keen to help out with any questions you may have about their fair city. It’s also a women’s shelter you should be aware so if you’re looking to send it and cause a ruckus, maybe move along.

Romeo and Juliet Non Hotel best hostels in Turin

Angel’s Home is a quiet boutique-style guesthouse, pamper yourself with a good night’s sleep for just a couple of euros more than the backpacker’s hostels. The price and style are just the tip of the iceberg.

Angel’s Home will also hook you up with a terrace, a shared kitchen, and, of course, a bar. If you want to party, this guesthouse will have you staying just a few steps away from all the best restaurants and bars in Verona. Everyone goes on about Juliette’s house but what about Romeo’s house?

Nadia’s Comfy Room near Juliette’s House is the perfect accommodation for couples. The interior Victorian-style rooms can surely boost the romantic vibes of the trip. On top of that, it’s a place known for its great location in the city.

Final Thoughts on Verona’s Hostels

All the beauty and history of Verona can be found in the city’s lively piazzas, Piazza Bra, Piazza delle Erbe, ooh la la. The Castelvecchio Museum, the Verona Cathedral, and the Basilica of San Zeno are stunning examples of architecture left over from the Renaissance. With streetside cafes and romantic cobble lanes, Verona will have you falling head over heels in love with the city.

Where else can you actually walk onto the balcony that inspired Romeo and Juliet and step back in time when wandering elaborate museums? Nadia’s Comfy Room near Juliette’s House, that’s where, yeah, it’s in Verona, but you get my point. It’s a dreamy place to stay and my top pick unless you’re a hound for a hostel.

If you are hunting for that perfect Verona hostel, book the Verona Stravagante Hostel, it is great and cheap and in the city centre. Tick, tick, tick!

Wherever you stay in Verona, the hikes, lakes, and architecture will have you thinking twice about ever leaving Verona. If you stay in a few Verona hostels, you’ll find it difficult to settle on a hostel to call home. Although you may not have a lot of choices, the hostels and guesthouses sprinkled throughout the city will make your vacation one to remember!

Have you ever travelled to Verona? I would love to hear about your holiday! Let me know if you stayed in any great backpackers hostels I may have missed in the comments below.
