There are a TON of hostels in Bangkok that you can party in while backpacking Thailand, but some are just a cut above the others. You want somewhere that has the vibes, but also a solid location and cool social activities.

Let’s dive into my favorite party hostels in Bangkok…

1. BED STATION Hostel Khaosan

• Price: $$
• Best for: Party-minded backpackers who want to be in the thick of the Khaosan action without sacrificing comfort
• Highlights: Saltwater pool, gym, regular events
• Dorms from: $13.50
• Private rooms from: $70
• Location: Steps from Khaosan Road

Bed Station is THE first landing point if you’re rocking up to Bangkok in hunt of a party. Khao San Road is on its doorstep, and with so many activities like pub crawls and walking tours on every day, it’s one of those hostels where you check in and instantly know it’s going to be a wild time. The crowd skews solo travellers and fresh graduates on their first big trip, so finding people to go out with takes about ten minutes.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

• The location without the noise. Being one street back from Khaosan means you get the access without the 2am sound system bleeding through your walls. It’s the best of both worlds.
• On-site gym. So you can sweat off the Changs before hopping back on them come evening. It’s all about balance.
• Staff are legends. It’s the kind of hostel where the front desk remembers you by day two.

The social infrastructure here does a lot of the heavy lifting. Mao Mind Bar and the saltwater pool mean the pregame is sorted before you’ve even figured out where you’re going, and the nightly events, karaoke, team games, communal shots, have a habit of becoming the actual plan rather than the warmup. With an on-site bar, gym and pool, don’t be surpised if you end up becoming a bit of a hermit (until the night out commences, of course).

2. Mad Monkey Bangkok

• Price: $$
• Best for: Solo travelers and first-timers to Asia who want a built-in social life and a packed events calendar
• Highlights: Outdoor pool, bar and restaurant, nightly events (pub crawls, karaoke, bar olympics, pool parties), free welcome drink, female-only dorms available, adults only
• Dorms from: $20
• Private rooms from: $60
• Location: A short walk from Khaosan Road and around 10 minutes on foot to the Grand Palace.

What would a party hostel list be without a mad monkey on it?! A party institution, this particular Mad Monkey is one of the coolest hostels in Bangkok. It’s decked out with all the best elements you’d expect – starting with a raucous bar and a buzzing pool area. Like all great party hostels, the staff are the chief instigators and help get the nightly parties off to a good start. It’s definitely not the place to go if you need a solid night’s sleep.  

Why you’ll love this hostel:

• The biggest bar crawl in Bangkok. Happy hour, free shots, drinking games, then out onto Khaosan.
• The weekly schedule is relentlessly good. There’s a structured event every single night, from pub quiz on Mondays to bar olympics on Saturdays. You won’t have to figure out what to do with yourself once.
• The reps and staff are wild. They’re right where they want to be, and they know how to drag everyone into the fun.

With epic pool parties, bar crawls and drink deals, this hostel sure knows how to throw some SICK parties. You’ll get a welcome drink on arrival, so pick your poison where to drink it. The outdoor pool? At the bar? The multiple communal spaces? Hell, knock yourself out and have one in the on-site gym whilst you’re at it. As expected, this place attracts some real party animals, so I’d recommend only booking if partying is what’s on your mind.

3. Revolution Khao San by The Bliss

• Price: $
• Best for: Hard partiers aged 18-35 who want someone else to organise their social life for them
• Highlights: Nightly pub crawl, outdoor pool, and daily events and games
• Dorms from: $11
• Private rooms from: $40
• Location: Phra Nakhon, just off Khaosan Road. A few steps from the strip, 18 minutes’ walk to the Grand Palace.

Revolution Khao San is unusually upfront about what it is. The Hostelworld listing warns you in capital letters that it’s loud, that it’s next to Khaosan Road, and that you should not expect a quiet sleep. It’s a refreshing amount of honesty from a hostel, and the guests who show up having read that warning know that they’re in for a damn good time.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

• Daily events. You’ve got bucket olympics, pub quizzes and everything else designed to keep backpackers occupied.
• Free family dinner. Line your stomach and make friends in the process.
• Central to Khao San Road. Close to bars and temples when you need to dip your toes in some culture.

The draw here beyond the location is the free dinner every night, which doubles as a built-in icebreaker before the night kicks off. From there it’s pub crawls, drinking games, and bar olympics until the street outside takes over. The hostel is clean (yes even the bathrooms), and the vibes were always on point during my stay! Along with the cheapest drinks in the area, with buckets starting from as little as six bucks which is kind of ridiculous. It’s not a place that accidentally becomes a party hostel on weekends. It’s a party hostel every single night, by design.

4. Nomads Bangkok Khao San Road Hostel

• Price: $
• Best for: Flashpackers who want boujey amenities and a social crowd
• Highlights: Pool, bar, games and events, tours
• Dorms from: $10
• Private rooms from: N/A
• Location: Nestled in the lively Khaosan area, steps from the main strip.

Nomads is a relatively young kid on the party scene block, which is exactly why it should be on your radar. It’s a brand new hostel so everything is new and everyone is buzzing with energy, staff, reps and backpacker crowd alike. This hostel’s belief is that biggest, baddest city in the world should have the biggest, baddest hostel in the world…enter Nomads into the mix.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

• Super fun reps who bring a little bit of chaos to the vibe
• Brand spanking new amenities, from a swimming pool to comfy dorms
• On-site bar and cafe to keep you fuelled and with a drink perpetually by your side

The common area is super social, with daily themed events going on every night before most of the gang head to Khao San Road. The staff really make the experience that bit better. Everyone is welcoming and friendly, making it the perfect first base if you’re just touching down in Thailand. It’s as squeaky clean as you’d expect from a new hostel, the AC cranks, and rooms get pitch black so you’ve got the perfect combo to get you to sleep (if the drinks don’t do that already). A word of warning that some rooms do feel the bass from music outside late at night, but when you’re so close to Khao San Road, it’s to be expected.

5. AREA81 HIDEOUT Hostel Khaosan

• Price: $
• Best for: Travelers who want to be near Khaosan without being swallowed by it, with a quieter, more design-led base
• Highlights: Art gallery with rotating local and international works, co-working space, cooking classes
• Dorms from: $7
• Private rooms from: $27
• Location: About 500 metres from Khaosan Road.

AREA81 HIDEOUT is more than your bog standard party hostel. Sure, it’s social, you can drink and gear up for a night down Khao San. But it’s much more than that. It’s a one of a kind art-inspired space, with a rotating gallery of artwork by local and international artists. It attracts the curious and free spirited, looking to connect…and, yes, party a little in the meantime.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

• A rooftop bar with a rotation of international DJs who might just be the highlight of your night before you even head out to Khao San Road
• Effortlessly cool. The vibe here is unspokenly social without the usual events to make it that way…it just is.
• Tons to keep you occupied. A small gym, pool table, ping pong table and even a co-working space for when you have to pretend to work inbetween beers…

The hostel doesn’t rely on ‘organised fun’ as much as other hostels on this list. Instead, it’s got that easy going fun loving vibe that makes it easy to sit at the bar or the outdoor terrace and start getting to know people. This means that you may have to actually put in a little more effort to make friends, but the upside is escaping the constant offers of beer pong at other, hardcore party stops. The crowd veers older here. If you’re in your mid to late 20’s+ and want to escape the 18 year old English lads lads lads without having to book somewhere (let’s say) boring, this is the place.

Bangkok has been doing this longer than most cities, and it shows no signs of slowing down. The street food keeps sizzling into the small hours, the rooftop bars keep filling up, and somewhere on Khaosan Road, someone is always on their fifth night of a two-night stay. The hostels on this list are just the start of the night.
