But here’s the thing that most people don’t tell you: Mykonos can be whatever you want it to be. You can stay in a quiet area and enjoy a relaxed, slow pace of life, the laid-back beaches and fam-friendly resorts. Or, you can go wild and enjoy some of the most famous and wild nightlife in the world.
I’ve been both of these visitors to Mykonos in my time, and I must admit, this little island has seen me at my best and my worst.
As you can imagine, choosing where to stay in Mykonos is an important decision. Pick the wrong area and you’ll either be kept awake by the bass until 4 am, or you’ll be stranded somewhere that requires a massive expedition just to find some breakfast.

Mykonos Town
Finding budget accommodations in Mykonos is hard, but not impossible. At least if you know where to look! Tucked in amongst the restaurants, shops and bars of Mykonos Town is a good selection of affordable and reasonably priced accommodation.
Little Venice
Little Venice is a popular neighbourhood located just south of the Old Port of Mykonos. It is a lively and buzzing neighbourhood that charms visitors with its narrow cobblestone lanes, romantic twisting alleys, and its stunning sea views.
Elia Beach
If you’re looking for a break from the hustle, bustle and crowds of tourists, Elia Beach is the place for you! Set on Mykonos’ central southern coast, Elia is an exclusive and luxurious town the offers pristine beaches, shimmering blue waters, and high-class resorts all off the beaten path.
Platys Gialos
Platys Gialos is our best recommendation for where to stay in Mykonos with kids. It is located on Mykonos’ southern coast and is well-known for its soft sand beaches and gentle waves, perfect for travellers of all ages and swimmer of all abilities.

For those backpacking through Greece, a stop in Mykonos is a popular choice, especially among couples, adventurers, and those who want to experience some of the wildest nightlife on the planet. It’s a fairly luxurious island in the Cyclades group of the Greek Islands that is pretty much perfect all year round.
And while timing your trip is important, so is finding the perfect abode! Here are the top neighbourhoods of Mykonos, the best things to do, and the fittest places to stay.
1. Old Port of Mykonos – Where to Stay Your First Time
The Old Port is my number one pick if you’re visiting Mykonos for the first time. The centrepiece of lively and vibrant Mykonos Town, the Old Port is where you’ll find the island’s most famous attractions. From whitewashed buildings and windmills to restaurants, shops and kiosks, the Old Port is one of Mykonos’ best neighbourhoods for checking the sights, sounds and tastes of Mykonos off your bucket list.
The Old Port is also the best neighbourhood in Mykonos to stay in if you’re looking to do a little island hopping. From here, you can board a ferry and be whisked off to more epic places to visit in Greece, like Delos, Naxos, or even Athens.
- Best For: Exploring on foot, cafes, sunset views, boat trips, and people-watching!
- The Vibe: Classic Cycladic with whitewashed lanes, waterfront restaurants, and relaxed but fun vibes.

Manto Hotel | Best Budget Hotel
Traditional air-conditioned rooms right in the centre of town! This two-star hotel features an excellent breakfast served in a stylish breakfast room, complete with white furnishings and wooden floors. While the rooms are comfortable and clean, the best feature is the location. You’ll be close to landmarks, restaurants, bakeries and even the Fabrika bus stop for getting around the Island.
Bright and Relaxing Loft | Best Airbnb
There’s so much to see in Mykonos, which is why you want to stay as central as possible. Staying in this Airbnb means you’ll literally have attractions left and right.
Go see the windmill, Little Venice, the old port and much more – all within walking distance. However, your home is just as incredible. The loft is very welcoming, spacious and fantastically designed, you’ll enjoy every second.
2. Mykonos Town – Where to Stay in Mykonos on a Budget
Mykonos can be expensive, and finding budget accommodations is hard, but not impossible, at least if you know where to look!
Tucked in amongst the restaurants, shops and bars of Mykonos Town is a good selection of affordable and reasonably priced accommodation. In fact, Mykonos Town boasts the highest concentration of guesthouses and pensions on the island, so you’re likely to find something that meets both your style AND your budget.
Mykonos Town is also my best recommendation for where to stay if you’re just there for one night because it’s the best-connected area on the island. Not only is it a short drive from the airport, but it’s close to plenty of boats and ferries, perfect for island hopping around the Aegean.
Budget tip: Mykonos is pretty perfect all year round. While visiting in the ‘off season’ can feel a little quiet, your bank balance and sun tan will sincerely thank you.
- Best For: Budget-friendly stays, wandering, cafés, nightlife, classic Cycladic charm.
- The Vibe: Whitewashed lanes, small shops, buzzing evenings.
- Proximity to Airport: Around 10-15 minutes by taxi from Mykonos Airport.

- Budget: Mid-Range-High. Mykonos is expensive, but there are more accommodations and food options available to choose from in the town.
- Crowds: Busy in summer but much calmer (and cheaper!) in shoulder seasons.

San Antonio Summerland | Best Hotel
The San Antonio Summerland is ideally located in Mykonos Town. It’s a mid-range hotel, and you’ll find plenty of cheap eats and budget-friendly activities nearby, as well as nightlife and shopping. This four-star hotel provides relaxing and stylish rooms with modern features.
Mykonos Marina | Best Budget Hotel
I loved my stay at Mykonos Marina; it was one of the cheapest rooms on the block, but it was solid. The room was simple but spotless, the location couldn’t be better, and I loved being able to walk straight into town or down to the Old Port.
Mycocoon Hostel Mykonos | Best Hostel
This Mykonos hostel is perfect for budget backpackers and is infact the ONLY hostel on the island (at the time of writing). Its location also lends it a pretty awesome base, with a ton of bakeries, bars and nightlife within walking distance. If you’re looking for a comfortable holiday home in the centre of Mykonos Town, then stop right here! This apartment hosts up to 4 guests in two bedrooms, is built in a classic Mykonian style, and has excellent views. The location is definitely the best part, though: quiet without being out of the loop. You are within walking distance of bars, nightlife and restaurants!
3. Little Venice – Where to Stay for Nightlife
Little Venice is a popular neighbourhood located just south of the Old Port of Mykonos. It is a lively and buzzing neighbourhood that charms visitors with its narrow cobblestone lanes, romantic twisting alleys, and stunning sea views.
It is set in the stunning Aegean Sea and is famous for its whitewashed buildings, mind-blowing beaches and its fresh and delicious food. Here you’ll find everything from relaxed seaside wine bars to thriving beach clubs with heaving dance floors. So, no matter what you’re looking for, Little Venice has something for every taste and style.
This is the best neighbourhood in Mykonos to stay in if you’re looking for a wild night out. Home to dozens of cocktail bars, clubs and restaurants, Little Venice is known as one of the best places to party in Europe.
- Best For: Sunset drinks, waterfront dining and strolls, photography, and epic nightlife.
- The Vibe: Dreamy and iconic. The colourful balconies hanging over the water, lively bars, and a buzzing evening atmosphere are everything you could imagine from a Greek island.
- Proximity to Airport: Around 10-15 minutes by taxi from Mykonos Airport.
- Transport Level: Fully walkable from Mykonos Town, you won’t need transport once you’re there.
- Budget: Mid-range to high. The cafés and bars here come with a view premium, and they’ll charge ya for it.
- Crowds: Very busy at sunset, but quieter early in the day. Peak summer is super busy.

- Cool down with a refreshing drink at Zorbas.
- Listen to great live music at Montparnasse, The Piano Bar.
- Enjoy a few relaxed bevvies at The Garden near the windmills.
- Snap photos of the iconic Kato Milli windmills.
- Wander the waterfront lanes and explore the boutique shops.
- Watch the sunset from one of the bars with balconies hanging over the water.
- Head out to a local brewery for a tour & tasting. Great alcoholic day out.
Oikia Suites Mykonos | Best Budget Hotel
Don’t hesitate to stay at Oikia Suites Mykonos to save a few Euros. The suite was bright, modern, and spotless, with a balcony that made mornings feel slow and peaceful. It’s close enough to town to wander in easily but far enough to stay quiet at night. It’s a really comfortable, easy base for exploring Mykonos.
Mooi Skylight | Best Airbnb
Fall asleep watching the stars. Nope, I’m not talking about sleeping outside. This loft and its bedroom are truly unique. Instead of the ceiling, you’ll look straight through (safety) glass, up to the stars – now how cool is that! However, what’s also great is the location. This Mykonos Airbnb is surrounded by great beach bars and restaurants. Have the best evening of your life – followed by a night under the stars.
4. Elia Beach – Coolest Place to Stay
If you’re looking for a break from the hustle, bustle and crowds of tourists, Elia Beach is the place for you! Set on Mykonos’ central southern coast, Elia is an exclusive and luxurious town that offers pristine beaches, shimmering blue waters, and high-class resorts all off the beaten path.
Elia is one of the coolest places to stay in Mykonos because it has everything you could possibly want from a holiday in the Greek Islands. Here you’ll find amazing beaches, stunning views, delicious restaurants, and vibrant nights out.
- Best For: Long beach days, swimming, water sports, relaxed luxury.
- The Vibe: Wide, golden sands with a calm, upscale feel. It’s quieter than the party beaches but still busy.
- Proximity to Airport: Around 20-25 minutes by taxi from Mykonos Airport.
- Transport Level: Reachable by bus or car, but not walkable from town.
- Budget: High. The sunbeds, beach clubs, and restaurants here come with a premium.

Greco Philia Hotel Boutique Mykonos | Best Hotel
This exceptional five-star hotel is one of the coolest places to stay in Mykonos. Its rooms are equipped with a spa bath and air conditioning, and guests can enjoy a complimentary fruit bowl. This hotel also has a variety of wellness features, like private pools, a sauna, a Jacuzzi and a fitness centre. If you’re willing to splash out for your stay in Mykonos, this is a fab choice.
Cova Mykonos Suites | Best Budget Hotel
As you might have figured, there aren’t a ton of budget-friendly stays around here, but I’ve managed to source out the best ones. Cova Mykonos Suites is still up-market and pretty fancy by a backpacker standard, but it comes at a lower price than its neighbours. There is a swimming pool on-site and incredible views.
Cave Blue | Best Airbnb
Is there anything better than two bedroom villa that doesn’t completely break the bank? Maybe, but this one here is still pretty damn tasty.
There is a beautiful outdoor pool (shared), panoramic views, and great opportunities to kick back and relax! There is a well-stocked kitchen and two comfy bedrooms. Sensational, relaxing atmosphere and spacious rooms.
5. Platys Gialos – Where to Stay for Families
Mykonos is a great place to stay in Greece with a family – it’s got everything you need, sun, sea and beach resorts with plenty of activities to keep the little ones entertained. Platys Gialos is my best recommendation for where to stay in Mykonos with kids. It is located on Mykonos’ southern coast and is well-known for its soft sand beaches and gentle waves, perfect for travellers of all ages and swimmers of all abilities.
This village is home to one of the most popular beaches in Mykonos. It attracts travellers from all around the world to lounge in the sun, swim in the surf, and enjoy the stunning view out into the Aegean Sea. The area has plenty of sandy coves to explore, so you’ll never be bored in Platys Gialos.
- Best For: Beaches, families, easy access to boat taxis and relaxed days with plenty of food options!
- The Vibe: Calm, organised, and welcoming. There is a long sandy beach lined with restaurants, sunbeds, and calm water for the kids to enjoy.
- Proximity to Airport: Around 10 minutes by taxi from Mykonos Airport.
- Transport Level: Excellent! There are buses to Mykonos Town and boat taxis to nearby beaches.
- Budget: Mid-range to high, with a mix of casual, cheaper eateries and upscale beach clubs.

Kamari Hotel Mykonos Island | Best Hotel
This is my favourite hotel in Mykonos. It is ideally located for exploring the village and enjoying everything the island has to offer. Rooms are comfortable, spacious and well-equipped for families of all sizes. There’s also a variety of features geared towards children, guaranteed to keep even your littlest travellers entertained.
Mykonos Kosmoplaz | Another Great Hotel
With a great location, a private beach and luxurious features, it’s no wonder I love this hotel! Set in Platys Gialos, this hotel is close to a great selection of restaurants and bars, and there are plenty of amazing beaches nearby. It has modern rooms with excellent features. There’s also a swimming pool, mineral bath, and an on-site restaurant.
Sea and Sun Beach House | Best Airbnb
If you’re a family looking for an excellent Greek holiday, I would seriously recommend this Mykonian-style apartment, less than 100 metres from the Platys Gialos Beach. There is free wifi, a gorgeous open-plan kitchen/living space, and comfortable sleeping for up to 4 guests. The hosts will even provide a baby chair and cot for families with super small people!
