Squirrel Hill is a residential neighbourhood tucked away in the east end of Pittsburgh. A short drive from downtown, this neighbourhood is ideally located for exploring hip Lawrenceville and the vibrant Strip District.

For me, it was a real revalation when travelling around the US. It offered the architectural charms of places like Chicago and New York without the crowds, the old world charm of Philly without the lines of people waiting for the Liberty Bell and the feeling of being off the beaten track without feeling like I was in the sticks!

Downtown Pittsburgh is set at the centre of the city. This small and walkable neighborhood is where you’ll find good shopping, interesting attractions, and plenty of incredible views.
Head across the river to the North Side. This neighborhood is home to a myriad of famous attractions and art galleries and is where you’ll find a good selection of reasonably priced accommodations.
Travel northeast from downtown and you’ll arrive in the Strip District. A haven for foodies and night owls, this area is where Pittsburgh’s hipster population likes to hang out and play.
As you continue north you’ll pass through Lawrenceville. Once a heavy industrial zone, Lawrenceville is now a hub for innovation and creativity and is one of the coolest neighborhoods in the city.
And finally, travel south from here to Squirrel Hill. This family-friendly neighborhood is packed with lush parks, ethnic eats, and a variety of trendy boutiques.

The best way to experience this, in my opinion, is by indulging in the vast array of ethnic foods available in this buzzing neighborhood. From Chinese and Middle Eastern to pizza and dessert, Squirrel Hill is where you and your family can eat very, very well.
