Staying in a Bed and Breakfast in Maine

Maine is one of those places where you can browse boutique shops in local villages, eat a classic lobster roll, and explore acres of pine forests within the space of one day. Maine’s Route 1 is almost as well known as the West Coast equivalent and is one of the most highly recommended road trip routes on the East Coast.

The best way to experience quintessential Maine is by road, stopping off at lesser-known towns and cities to spend a night in different Maine bed and breakfasts and inns along the way.

B&Bs in this state often operate from historical homes built as far back as the 1800s. With authentic interiors such as hardwood floors, decorative skirting, and antique furnishings, many of these spots seem to transport you back in time to a different era.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at my pick of the best B&Bs in Maine.

White Sails Inn is located on the southern Maine coast. It is beautifully decorated with spacious guest rooms and delicious breakfasts. The hosts Susanne and Lori are wonderful – they provide freshly baked cookies and hot drinks whenever you like during the day.

My favourite parts? The inn has a great bar, a front porch and a fire pit that the hosts light each night. It’s a great place to chill out and enjoy after a day of exploring. Plus, the breakfasts are bangin’ and are made from scratch each morning.

The Inn is centrally located and only a short drive to the beaches in Newburyport, Portland, Old Orchard Beach and Ogunquit. The location is far enough away from downtown Kennebunkport that you won’t have traffic issues, but close enough that you don’t have to travel far to be there. You’ll be in Dock Square in no time.
