Within a day of arriving in Lake Como, I had fallen in love with the place. But can you blame me? The Italian lakeside haven looks like something out of a fairytale.

It’s the third largest lake in Italy – and no doubt the best known. If you’re fortunate enough to visit this lakeside paradise, cruise the waters, and visit the iconic villas and lesser-known villages surrounding it, you’re in for a DIVINE treat.

One dive into vacation rentals here, and you’ll be inundated with exquisite villas and luxurious hotels. It’s true: few places encapsulate the magic of Lake Como like these opulent hotels. But unless you have access to a secret money tree, they’re unaffordable for most.

Instead of blowing your life savings on a few nights of accommodation, your best bet would be to find an Airbnb along the lake shores. There are a few towns and cities worth checking out, and staying in an Airbnb in Lake Como is an incredible way to experience La Dolce Vita. After all, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo isn’t exactly a local hotspot.

To make your hunt for a rental in Lake Como a bit easier, I’ve done the groundwork and picked out the 15 best places to stay. So, without delay, let’s live like a local in Lake Como.

What to Expect from Airbnbs in Lake Como

Airbnbs in Lake Como range from historic condos to modern apartments, fully self-contained homes and villas, and even the odd remote mountain lodge.

There are a few huge advantages to staying in an Airbnb. Airbnbs are little homes, fully equipped with everything you need for a long or a short vacation. All of the homes on this list have a kitchen where you can whip up a five-star meal or heat up yesterday’s pizza.

Dining tables are commonplace, and there is usually a spot to eat outdoors, too. On that note, since staying in Lake Como is so popular during the summertime, most Airbnbs have a terrace or a balcony, some with incredible views of the lake. These outdoor areas might be small, but they offer enough space to enjoy your morning coffee in the Italian sunshine and even a meal under the stars.

Bellano Lake Como

Not only will you have way more space to cook and live like a local, but Airbnbs offer personalized touches that will undoubtedly make your stay extra special. You could find a property that has been beautifully curated by a mid-century-inspired interior designer or an Airbnb with unique art and bespoke furniture.

Parking can be a hassle around Lake Como, especially during the peak summer season. Lucky for you, many of these Airbnbs have private parking. Those that don’t are often located on streets with free parking.

Just to manage expectations, I’ll add that many of these Airbnbs are only accessible by stairs. Since some buildings in the area were built over a century ago, they often aren’t built with accessibility in mind. That said, there are a few places with lifts or ground-floor apartments on the market.

We love a good deal!

We’ve included links to Booking.com as well throughout this post — as we have found many of the same properties available on Booking and they are usually at a cheaper price! We’ve included both button options where we can to give you the choice of where you book 🙂

The 15 Top Airbnbs in Lake Como

If you’re still on the fence between choosing a hotel and a dreamy Italian Airbnb, this list of 15 of the best Airbnbs in Lake Como is here to convince you that a self-catering rental is the way to go:

Modern Apartment with Balcony – Dervio | Overall Best Value Airbnb in Lake Como

Modern Apartment with Balcony, Dervio Lake Como

It’s not easy to pick the best Airbnb in this magnificent place, especially since I’m covering several different towns around Lake Como. That said, I think this spot ticks all the boxes for travellers in Italy.

It’s affordable, located just a short walk from the train station in central Dervio, and is fully equipped with a modern kitchen and sunny living space.

There are options for one or two-bedroom apartments, suitable for up to four guests. The larger apartments even have a sofa couch, which can fit an extra child in if needed.

Private Ensuite Room with Alpine Views – Como | Best Budget Airbnb in Lake Como

Private Ensuite Room with Alpine Views, Lake Como

Lake Como isn’t the cheapest holiday destination (by any means whatsoever), so if you’re looking for an affordable place to stay, you’ll want to check out this private ensuite bedroom in a shared house.

It’s located in a family villa in the hills above Como, with epic panoramic views reaching from the Swiss Alps to Lake Como to Milan. When you need a bit of alone time, relax in your private suite with an ensuite bathroom or make use of the shared common spaces for a more social experience. Oh, and to save extra costs, your friendly hosts provide a simple daily breakfast.

Architectural Masterpiece in the Heart of Lake Como

This stunning condo is the perfect compromise between a self-catering Airbnb and a luxurious hotel. It has all the amenities of a rental in Lake Como but with a touch of luxury that isn’t so easy to find.

Picture double-height ceilings, a deep fireplace, terrazzo tiled floors, and thick stone walls as a foundation, complemented by high-end contemporary furniture. The bathroom might be my favourite room in the house, with a unique burnt orange facade, a huge bathtub, and double windows opening across the roofs of Como.

Psst…

We’ve turned this post into an Airbnb wishlist: compare prices & locations easily!

If you like the idea of travelling solo but don’t want to spend too much on a private Airbnb, this private bedroom is your perfect match. You’ll never be totally alone, yet you will have your own ensuite bathroom. Really, is there anything better than a private bathroom?

The house reminds me a bit of a makeshift hostel in Lake Como but in the best way possible. Shared dining spaces, access to a fully equipped kitchen, and multiple rooms to rent out mean you’ll be in the company of like-minded travellers during your stay.

Gorgeous Modern One-Bed Condo – Como | Perfect Short-Term Airbnb in Lake Como for Digital Nomads

Life as a digital nomad in Como is as good as it gets. If dips in the lake, coffee in historic plazas, and grocery shopping at local farmers’ markets don’t catch your attention, this stunning modern condo will.

It’s also one of the most attractive and luxurious apartments in Como, set in the penthouse of a refurbished apartment, with high ceilings, unique lighting, and marble countertops. Aside from being impressively elegant, the apartment has an office space with fast Wi-Fi that will help you reach peak productivity levels.

More Epic Airbnbs in Lake Como

It’s no secret that Lake Como drains your wallet much faster than other places to stay in Italy.

Why?

Because it’s gorgeous.

Here are a few of my other favourite Airbnbs in Lake Como!

Secluded Mountain Chalet with Rooftop Terrace – Brunate

Secluded Mountain Chalet with Rooftop Terrace, Brunate Lake Como

One of the more unique Airbnbs on the list, this remote mountain chalet is an architectural masterpiece tucked away in lush altitude. It’s surrounded by forests in the Brunate mountains, just a 15-minute drive from Como. If you’ve got time, it’s worth working this into your itinerary for Lake Como.

Inside the house, modernist fittings with sleek lines, polished concrete floors, and windows so big they make you feel like you’re one with the forest, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Oh, and did I mention this spot also has a rooftop deck and a small swimming pool?

Traditional One Bed Apartment with Mountain View – Piantedo

Traditional One Bed Apartment with Mountain View, Piantedo Lake Como

Some Airbnbs are so comfortable that it’s tough to get out of bed in the morning, and this is one of them. Staying here feels like you’re in a family home. With warm wooden interiors, eclectic artwork, and cosy linens, the only thing missing is Grandma’s cooking.

The apartment includes a remodelled kitchen suitable for preparing all your favourite dishes, a four-person dining table, and a suite with a workspace and an optional crib for young parents.

Eclectic Five-Bed Villa with Lake Views and Pool – Perledo

Eclectic Five-Bed Villa with Lake Views and Pool, Perledo Lake Como

There are a few things that set this villa apart from the rest. Firstly, it has five bedrooms and space to sleep up to 14 guests. Second, it has a private swimming pool.

Finally, there is a spacious terrace with unrivalled views across Lake Como. Seriously, you wouldn’t find a better view if you tried.

This Lake Como Airbnb has a retro feel, with antique furniture, bespoke lighting, and fittings that make this ideal if you’re travelling with your family. With an outdoor terrace and dining space, you can relax with a good book while your kids safely splash about in the pool.

Lakefront Apartment with Direct Beach Access – Bellano

Lakefront Apartment with Direct Beach Access, Bellano Lake Como

It’s all well being close to the water, but being ON the lake is a whole different story. And this apartment is the perfect example. You can hear the water lapping against the side of the building, which has a spacious terrace ideal for enjoying your morning coffee.

Colourful and quirky, with pops of blues, oranges, and pinks, unique art, and a recently refurbished kitchen space, this is the kind of place you imagine renting for a vacation in Italy. But the best part of this property isn’t even the apartment itself; it’s the private beachfront access that comes with it.

Sunny Apartment Overlooking Piazza Volta – Como

Sunny Apartment Overlooking Piazza Volta, Lake Como

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to wake up and live the slow life of a Como local? Well, now you can. Set right in the heart of Como, overlooking the iconic Piazza Volta, this apartment will give you a real taste of life in Como.

It’s small yet spaciously decorated, with warm wooden floors and a unique blend of modern and mid-century furnishings. The kitchen has double doors that open out onto a sunny terrace overlooking an inner courtyard—just like the ones you see in the movies.

Family-Friendly Three-Bed Old-Town Apartment – Como

Family-Friendly Three-Bed Old-Town Apartment, Lake Como

With three bedrooms and a private secret garden, this is one of the best Airbnbs in Lake Como for families. To set the scene, picture a classic Italian villa with thick walls, intricate wooden details, and tiled floors. The windows reach the height of the ceiling, from which crystal chandeliers gracefully hang.

On top of this, the old home overlooks a peaceful garden in the centre of Como – a small oasis of quiet amongst the busy city. The apartment is also just a short walk to the old town, the best restaurants, and Lake Como itself.

Historic and Minimalistic Two-Bed Apartment – Como

Historic and Minimalistic Two-Bed Apartment, Lake Como

Looking for an affordable place to stay in Como with room for a big group? This refurbished two-bedroom apartment will answer all your prayers. It’s right in the city centre and has its own communal garden.

The furnishing is simple yet stylish, with modern lighting fixtures giving it a contemporary edge. Although small, the kitchen is well-fitted with everything you might need to prepare all your meals. For a little added convenience, you can easily prep the apartment for bedtime with electric shutters.

Central Two-Bed Apartment with Private Parking – Bellagio

Central Two-Bed Apartment with Private Parking, Bellagio Lake Como

You know those Airbnbs that just make you feel at home? This is one of them. Right in the best part of Bellagio, this Airbnb is just steps from the lake and all the gardens, restaurants, and shops you might want to tick off your list.

It’s also close to public transport and includes access to a private garage parking for those who arrive by car. The home is beautifully designed with predominantly white interiors and fresh linen. For the perfect Italian dinner, enjoy a meal on the balcony, which is romantically shaded by grape vines.

Mid-Century Chic Rental Unit with Lake Views – Bellagio

Mid-Century Chic Rental Unit with Lake Views, Bellagio Lake Como

After a day of trialling the best pasta in Bellagio, unwind in your very own mid-century modern apartment in the heart of the old city. Opinions are subjective, but I believe this to be the most beautiful rental in Lake Como.

Set against a simple backdrop of white walls, high ceilings, and plenty of traditional floor-to-ceiling windows, every piece of furniture and art has been carefully curated to make the space feel elegant and homey. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s right in the centre of Bellagio, one of the best areas to base yourself for exploring Lake Como.

Lakefront Haven with Children’s Facilities – Bellano

Lakefront Haven with Children’s Facilities, Bellano Lake Como

Last but certainly not least, this lakefront apartment might just be one of my favourites on this list. You can literally throw a stone from the balcony into the lake, it’s so close to the water’s edge.

The bedroom is set in a loft space above the living room, meaning you can enjoy world-class lake views from the bed. When you aren’t indulging in a sunny breakfast on the terrace, make your way to the private beach in front of the apartment for a dip in the lake. What more could you ask for?

Final Thoughts on the Best Airbnbs in Lake Como

While that brings me to the end of this curated list of Airbnbs in Lake Como, I must stress that there are so many places to stay around this lake. With so many towns and villages scattering the area, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Airbnbs are an epic way to experience Lake Como without spending an arm and a leg on a five-star hotel. Not only can you save money, but renting an Airbnb means having access to your own kitchen, parking space, and, in general, plenty more room than an average hotel.

Hopefully, you’re inspired to book your trip to greener lakeside pastures for the summer (or winter, no judgment). Once you find a great rental in Lake Como, you can rest assured you’ve made a good choice!
