Backpacking Colombia was a dream come true for me.

The wonderful city of Medellin was surprisingly my favourite location in the entire country. I’m not usually a city boy but my stay at Viajero Medellin Hostel was hugely influential in forming this opinion.

It’s a modern, MASSIVE hostel equipped with all amenties a modern backpacker could need. It’s located right in the heart of El Poblado – Medellin’s backpacker haven AND it’s kinda cheap too.

Visiting Medellin has never been more fashionable – huge numbers of backpackers, digital nomads and tourists are heading to Medellin, and these numbers are steadily increasing.

There are so many great hostels in the city of eternal spring, but my favourite is Viajero Medellin Hostel.

Let’s explore why…

Anyone backpacking Colombia is bound to find themselves in Medellin. It has recently become one of the world’s digital nomadding hotspots.

While there are amazing hostels in Medellin, Viajero Medellin Hostel is my favourite. And due to the high competition in the city, that is some praise.

Everything from the welcoming staff to kick-ass facilities, and the great location makes almost 1000 other backpackers agree.

What’s Unique About Viajero Hostel Medellin?

Right off the bat, Viajero Medellin Hostel stands out with its interior design. The rooms receive lots of natural light and have a nice theme. Exposed brick, large metallic circle windows, and a green view. What’s more, each floor has its unique graffiti theme.

The best parts of the hostel are:

    • Co-working area perfect for digital nomads
    • Ping pong table
    • Beautiful interior room design
    • Rooftop bar & hot tubs
    • Graffiti theme for each floor

The hostel provides all the key amenities of world-class hostels. We’re talking 24/7 tours, an on-site restaurant, self-catering facilities, AND coffee in the morning!

The best part about this hostel is the rooftop. Grab a drink at the rooftop bar, hop in the hot tub, and enjoy 360° city views.

The hostel’s coworking area is BANGING. As digital nomads flock to Medellin nowadays, this is an important feature for many visitors.

    Location of Viajero Medellin Hostel

Viajero Medellin is located in Manila, in the neighbourhood of El Poblado – my favourite part of Medellin.

El Poblado is often described as the bubbly and buzzing best place to stay in Medellin. There are myriad hostels, hip cafes, bars, and sexy restaurants on every street.

Right in the centre of El Poblado, Viajero makes the perfect base to explore the city. It was easy to get around the city and home safely after a night out.

It’s only 16km away from José María Córdova International Airport, or, Medellin International Airport (and only 2km from Olaya Herrera Airport). The nearby El Poblado Park was my favourite chill spot.

Viajero Medellin Hostel has multiple types of rooms, and accomodation options.

    • Private Rooms: Choose from Standard Twin Room Private Ensuite, Superior Twin Room Private Ensuites, Studios, Standrad Triple Studios or even a Superior Double Bed Private Ensuite.

    • Dorm Rooms: 10, 8 or 4 bed mixed dorms with ensuite or Female only dorms with ensuite from 2 beds upwards.

    • Family Room: 4 bed and 8 Bed Ensuite.

Whilst they aren’t the cheapest dorm beds in the world, it should be noted that each bed comes with a super comfy matress, a privacy curtain, charging sockets and are extremely clean.

The private rooms come with both free breakfast and the option to add pets to the night’s stay for $15.

    • Private Room costs range from $75 for the Standard Twin Room to $82 for the Superior options.

    • Dorm room costs are all similarly priced at around $18-25.

    • The 8 bed family dorm costs about $200! But, bear in mind that it’s only $25 per bed.

    Do I Recommend Viajero Hostel?

    Yes, of course I do!

Viajero Medellin is one of my favourite hostels in Colombia. Its unique design, awesome vibe, great location, and cleanliness guarantees great reviews from backpackers worldwide.

The only criticism I have is that it’s simply too big! I found it challenging to make friends during the day and was often leaving the place for social reasons. It was also so hard to explore the place as it felt like a hotel.

All in all, it is a great option for backpackers in Colombia, and it definitely has The Broke Backpacker stamp of approval.
