I’m not embarrassed to say that I spent waaaay too long at this hostel. After a string of pretty terrible hostels prior, I was more than ready to embrace my inner flashpacker and treat myself at Lub d.

If I could ignore the backpack stuffed next to my dorm bed and my less-than-pristine clothes, I could almost convince myself I was on a legit holiday. It was my favourite Cambodian hostel BY FAR.

Lub D is a stylish, boutique hostel that was created in the wake of its iconic hostel in Phuket. As seasoned pros, Lub D offers the luxury of a vacation…all on a backpacker budget.

The swim-up bar is hands down the coolest feature in ANY hostel in Siem Reap. Because who doesn’t want to float up and order a piña colada?

It’s also a solo traveller’s dream, it’s even voted as one of the best hostels on Hostelworld. With daily Angkor Wat tours and evening events like pub quizzes and bar crawls, there’s never a dull moment.

And let me tell you, the spin-the-wheel game for new guests is a total highlight – I scored a free beer tower on my first spin. Hell. Yeah.

2. White Rabbit Hostel – Best for Solo Travellers

• Best for: Solo travellers looking for legit community
• Highlights: Amazing pool, late check-out, social vibes and good spots to work

If you want a great balance of social vibes and solo chill, White Rabbit Hostel is a solid choice. There’s a real sense of community among other travellers backpacking Cambodia that’ll make you want to extend time and time again.

The café here doubles as your quirky, comfy office for you digital nomads out there. For those looking to kick back and relax, the swimming pool is preeeeetty good, complete with rubber rings and a volleyball net for a bit of friendly competition.

Location-wise, you’re golden – just a stone’s throw from lively Pub Street and an array of great bars and restaurants. It’s honestly one of my favourite neighbourhoods in all of Cambodia.

The vibe is 10/10: the staff are friendly and fun, and there are events nearly every night where you can join in the shenanigans. It’s the perfect mix of social buzz and kicking it back to relax.

3. Siem Reap Pub Hostel – Best Cheap Hostel

• Best for: Budget backpackers looking for a cheap and central base
• Highlights: Bar on-site, epic pool, unmatched location

Located on Siem Reap’s world-famous Pub Street, Siem Reap Pub Hostel is perfect if you and your crew are self-confessed party animals. You’ll be in the heart of the city’s buzzing nightlife here.

In some parts of the world, party hostels get a bad rep for being sticky, sweaty and generally a bit grim but not in Siem Reap! Pub Hostel is actually one of the cheapest hostels in the city and is clean, safe and a whole loada’ fun. Seriously, for the amenities and atmosphere offered here, you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Plus, they run epic Angkor Wat tours that won’t break the bank, which, of course, is one of the best things to see in Siem Reap.

The pool and restaurant area are perfect for kicking back when you’re not out exploring, and the reps are on an absolute MISSION to keep the party going and get everyone involved. For a hostel that’s easy on the wallet, Siem Reap Pub Hostel is a total standout.

4. Mad Monkey Siem Reap – Best for Party Lovers

• Best for: Party animals looking to have the most high-energy Siem Reap experience possible
• Highlights: Bar and cafe on site, tours and events, another much-needed pool
• Dorm (mixed): From $4
• Private Room: From $20

If you’ve been anywhere in South East Asia, you’ve probably heard of Mad Monkey. This chain of hostels has been a favourite of seasoned travellers for years.

This branch in Siem Reap can house up to 100 backpackers a night – not only does this mean there is always someone new to meet but there is an awesome vibe about the place too.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

In true Mad Monkey style, the evenings here get pretty wild. They usually start in the bar with daily events that’ll get you doing some questionable things after a couple of drinks…

Afterwards, they always head into town to carry on the chaos down lively Pub Street. If you’re not up for the late-night ruckus, don’t worry, the party usually wraps up around 11 pm, so you can still catch some Zs.

5. Onederz Hostel – Best for Digital Nomads

• Best for: Digital nomads in need to more lowkey nights and nicer facilities
• Highlights: Multiple pools, cafe onsite, fast Wifi and comfy workspaces

Self-proclaimed as a premium hostel, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything to hate on here! It’s probably the best hostel in Siem Reap when it comes to the facilities. The food on-site is elite and the place is like a hotel!

You’ve got multiple pools, including a rooftop pool, a cafe serving GOOD coffee and tons of seating areas and working spaces if you’re a digital nomad.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

3. Good food and drinks

There seems to be a real cool community of nomads here, with a good chunk of residents residing in the cafe during the day, cracking on with some work or planning their Siem Reap itinerary.

They also set up daily tours and I really recommend you join the cycle tour if you want to see more of the city.

The hostel is really centrally located as they’re just 4 minutes away from Pub Street. It can get pretty noisy down there so a little bit of distance is no bad thing!

Seriously, I had an absolute blast here.
