Redmond

Although administratively a northern suburb of Bend, Redmond is really a town in its own right. It’s a little bit rougher around the edges than its southern neighbour, but it more than makes up for it in charm.

About 30 minutes to the northwest of Bend, Sisters is an epic destination for adventure travellers. It’s considerably smaller than the city, so it comes with a secluded atmosphere. This gives visitors a more authentic insight into rural life in Oregon.

Top 3 Places to Stay in Bend

Bend is small and rural, so it’s a pretty safe destination to bring the family. If you want to explore further afield, it would be worthwhile bringing a car. Most importantly, though, bring your bike! This is the most popular mode of transport in the city, so you’ll feel perfectly safe.

Since it’s quite a small city, we consider Bend a neighborhood in its own right. For first time visitors, Bend is a fantastic gateway into one of Oregon’s most unique regions. Although we’ve recommended bringing your own vehicle, there are enough tour providers in Bend for you to get by if you need a little help getting into the more scenic areas.

There’s no escaping, however, that Bend is a super expensive destination. Budget travellers shouldn’t run away just yet though; Redmond is a fantastic alternative only a short drive away from the city. Though functionally its own city, Redmond is often considered a northern suburb of Bend. It also has a decent nightlife and dining scene, and some more laid-back hikes nearby.

Those looking for a more adventurous USA travel experience should opt for Sisters instead. Whether you’re into hiking, kayaking or fishing – it’s all on offer in this cute little town. It’s even more secluded than Bend, so you’ll really feel like you’re living out in the sticks. Scratch beneath the surface, however, and you’ll find a unique insight into Oregon’s rural culture.

Still not quite decided? We totally understand – it’s important to make sure you’ve got everything right before venturing off on vacation. To help you, we’ve got some more information about each area below – including our top hotel and accommodation picks in each.

Final Thoughts on Where To Stay in Bend

Whether you’re planning a staycation or finally embarking on that epic West Coast road trip, Bend is the ideal destination for anyone looking for breathtaking scenery. It’s an extraordinary place that’s managed to stay off the mass-tourism radar, so you’ll get to soak up the creative spirit and mingle with locals while admiring the scenic backdrop.

Of course, the city itself is our favourite place to stay mentioned in this guide. It is quite central, so you’ll be able to travel to both Sisters and Redmond with ease. You can also benefit from the many tour operators in the city offering excursions into the mountains.

That being said, the best place for you really depends on what you want to get out of your trip. If you can, make some time for all three of the destinations mentioned in this guide. They all offer something a little different, meaning you can enjoy a truly diverse staycation right in the heart of Oregon.

Lastly, don’t forget to keep an eye on the weather in Oregon. It tends to have a mind of its own, so it’s best to plan your activities around this to avoid any surprises!
