Bucharest is one of those cities that we like to call “up and coming”. And I can confirm,  it really is!

Nestled in southern Romania, this vibrant capital city is home to a dazzling array of architecture, energetic streets and nightlife that will blow your mind.

Bucharest is known for its turbulent past but it is so much more than that. You’ll find that although it has a rich and fascinating history to learn about, the city is also undeniably thrilling and offers an interesting mix of old and new.

It also has one of the fastest internet connections in Europe – so you’ll be able to upload snaps of your trip in no time!

But Bucharest is a massive city, so choosing the right neighborhood is super important. That’s exactly why I’ve put together this guide for where to stay in Bucharest, to make your decision-making a hell of a lot easier.

Whether you’re visiting for the first time, looking to party all night long, or just want to find the cheapest hostel in town – I’ve got you covered.

So, let’s jump right into it and find where is the best place for you!

Bucharest is one of Europe’s up-and-coming travel destinations. It is the largest city and capital of Romania and is the 6th largest city in the European Union.

An important industrial and commercial centre, Bucharest is a city with a turbulent past characterized by communism and violence throughout much of the 20th century. Today, it is a modern, booming and safe part of Europe that offers trendy dining, lively nightlife and a vibrant atmosphere.

The city is divided into six main districts, each home to a diverse set of neighborhoods and quarters that offer something unique to visitors.

In this Bucharest neighborhood guide, I’ll show you the best areas to stay in Bucharest based on interest, budget and need.

At the heart of the city is Old Town. It is also home to Lipscani, a vibrant neighborhood and my pick for where to stay in Bucharest for nightlife.

Travel north of the city centre to Floreasca. One of the coolest places to stay in Bucharest, Floreasca is an up-and-coming neighborhood where visitors can enjoy a variety of incredible cuisines from around the world.

Head south from here through the city centre to Piata Unirii, a neighborhood known for its affordable accommodation options and good-value hotels. While Romania is one of the cheapest countries in Europe, Bucharest is a bit heavier on the budget which is why I loved this neighbourhood as a backpacker.

And finally, set in southern Bucharest is Tineretului. Centred around a massive green space, this neighborhood is packed with activities and attractions for the whole family. Because of this, Tineretului is my top choice for where to stay in Bucharest with kids.
