When you see those impossibly beautiful underground caves that Mexico’s known for, you’re probably looking at Valladolid. While most pass through in a day or two, the best way to discover magical land is to backpack there.

Valladolid’s ability to lie low makes it a cult favorite. So you have to dig a little to find a well-recommended hostel. It’s Mexico after all.

That’s why I have taken it upon myself to review the best hostels in Valladolid. This list features hostels that are safe, affordable, and (most importantly) offer a good time…

Whether you’re looking for something to book as a couple or this is your first solo adventure, there is something on this list that will take your fancy.

Quick Answer: The Best Hostels in Valladolid

What to Expect from Hostels in Valladolid

While locals welcome tourists, it’s often the tourists who want to keep Valladolid a secret!

Aside from natural water holes to bathe in and nearby gorgeous beaches, this is much more of a city break than a relaxing vacation. You can expect to find some of the best restaurants right by your chosen hostel. Plus, a party scene that feels like it never stops is always waiting for you to join.

You can definitely cut down on your expenses during your Mexican trip by staying at budget-friendly hostels in Valladolid. Most of the group dorms are fairly priced. As for private rooms, these are definitely more expensive than other private hostel rooms I have stayed in.

Here are the price ranges for the room types:

  • Private rooms – $27 – $50
  • Group rooms – $10 – $20

When booking hostels online, Hostelworld.com offers a vast selection. It’s widely known for its convenience in booking accommodations, regardless of your destination.

Valladolid in itself is a great place to stay in Mexico and you’ll find that you can easily access amenities. What I am saying is, despite its ancient architecture, you won’t feel completely cut off from the modern world.
That being said, certain factors are non-negotiable. For instance, as a digital nomad, I prioritize hostels with reliable internet access, even if it means paying extra

Additionally, I have friends who travel as a couple and prefer to pay extra for a private room. Hostel private rooms are still far cheaper than booking a hotel, so they still save a bunch of money.

It’s just always a good idea to have those types of non-negotiables in your mind while browsing.

Hostel Oryx – Best Overall Hostel in Valladolid

Hostel Oryx

Fresh. New. Trendy. These are all words that come to mind when describing this hostel. I’m not sure if people say trendy anymore but I’m going with it.

You’ll likely meet a bunch of people in their twenties and thirties as that seems to be the demographic they are catering for. That’s not to say they have an age limit but it may give you a feel to the type of lively atmosphere here.

It’s also located in the downtown area so you’ll have a lot to fill your days with. However, that is only if you can drag yourself out of this hostel in the morning!

I say that because this Mexican hostel definitely gave off hotel vibes. It featured a gorgeous outdoor swimming pool, a beautiful tropical garden, and a shared lounge. There are also co-working spaces for those who struggle to switch off from work (me too).

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Great location
  • Breakfast available
  • Excursions offered here

As for the rooms, these really exceeded my expectations. They were spacious and surprisingly affordable. The rooms had shared bathrooms but they were still very clean.

I also loved how hands-on this hostel experience was. For those who are not planning to stay up all night at the local bars, you may enjoy the yoga classes in the morning. For those who are planning to do that, they offer a hearty breakfast to soak up some of the previous night’s events.

The final aspect that makes this hostel one of the best is the number of areas where you can socialize and meet some travel buddies. Plus, with bilingual reception staff, you can connect with the locals without a language barrier.

Che Valladolid Hostel & Bar – Best Hostel for Solo Travelers in Valladolid

Che Valladolid Hostel and Bar

When looking for the best hostels in Valladolid, it doesn’t get better than Che Valladolid Hostel & Bar.

By staying here, you’ll quickly be immersed in the rich history of this city. You’ll be able to easily explore the beautiful nature and the historical monuments.

This hostel is also one of the prettiest hostels I have seen in a long time. They have a stunning outdoor pool, a jacuzzi, and various green spaces for you to have a siesta or two…or three.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Poolside bar
  • Nearby to popular restaurants
  • Jacuzzi

Admittedly, these rooms will tug on your purse strings far more than other hostels in the area. However, these group dorms are much more luxurious. Even by looking at the photos, you can tell that they do not scrimp on quality.

For those who can’t get enough of the nightlife scene, this hostel features a poolside bar with a huge selection of exotic cocktails. They also have refreshing non-alcoholic drinks for those who would prefer not to have a hangover while traveling.

The staff will provide you with valuable information that will make your trip truly memorable. All you have to do is ask if they can help plan adventures and they will get right to it.

I also love how this hostel brings everybody together. There is entertainment to get involved with each night. I have always found that evening entertainment helps to break the ice between you and your roommates so make sure to take part!

New Friend Hostel & Bar – Party Hostel in Valladolid

New Friend Hostel and Bar

If the name is anything to go by then you should know that you’ll be making a whole group of new friends while staying here.

This is much more than one of the best hostels in Valladolid as this hostel claims to be one of the best hostels in the world. I must say, it lived up to the expectation.

You’ll find yourself feeling completely carefree and partying way into the early hours of the morning, so I actually can’t guarantee that you’ll remember it.

Aside from the drinking, you can also add a cultural moment to your trip. There are famous museums nearby to explore. Additionally, you can purchase handmade crafts at Calzada de los Frailes and make sure to visit the Convent de San Bernardino too.

Why you’ll love this hotel:

  • Vibrant party nightlife
  • Centrally located
  • Meals available

The design of this hostel is created to bring about a socializing atmosphere. You can select private rooms or embrace the lifestyle in a group dorm. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and feature air conditioning.

Also, pub crawls are very popular in this area. Like very, very popular. Which means a lot of noise. So, if you’re not going to be participating in the young and free nightlife scene, just go with another hostel.

If you are heading out to party, you can fuel your body with authentic Mexican dishes at their on-site restaurant. Maybe that will prevent the hangover?

Hostel Guacamayas – Most Affordable Hostel in Valladolid

Hostel Guacamayas

Traveling on a budget is made easy at Hostel Guacamayas.

Think cozy and functional. Look, you won’t be having the time of your life here but you’ll have somewhere safe to return to each night. Which is the priority, right?

Most importantly, this hostel is located in a convenient area next to all the most famous landmarks and attractions. Cenote Zaci (a serene underwater cavern), Calzada de los Frailes (the city’s famous market), and San Roque (a popular museum) are all nearby.

Why you’ll love this hotel:

  • Centrally located
  • Breakfast is available
  • Scooter rentals

This hostel only features group dorms, yet it also caters to solo female travelers by providing a female-only dormitory, ensuring they can enjoy a more private and comfortable stay.

Despite being a pretty basic hostel in comparison to some of the others, the staff are more than happy to help you plan your itinerary. They will also do anything within their means to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

The hostel offers a free breakfast which you can enjoy while lounging by the outdoor pool and listening to music. You can also easily get to know the city by renting a scooter or taking part in their free walking tour.

Casa Daniels – Great Dorms for Couples in Valladolid

Casa Daniels

Nestled within the enchanting confines of Valladolid, the most charming city in the Yucatan, lies this gorgeous hostel waiting for you to kick back and soak up the vibes.

This hostel features an amazing outdoor pool area surrounded by tropical greenery. There is also a shared outdoor kitchen space where you can cook meals together, socialize, and just…relax.

If you can pry yourself away from the accommodation then you can also explore the unbelievable nature that resides here. Cenote Zaci and La Mestiza Park are only moments away (these are among the must-visit locations in Mexico!)

Why you’ll love this hotel:

  • Rooftop terrace
  • Private rooms available
  • Nearby to popular attractions

Honestly, these private rooms are quite expensive in comparison with the other hostels on this list. However, when you’re traveling as a couple, the privacy is well worth the extra cost.

For a free date night activity, head to the gorgeous rooftop area where you can sit under the unobstructed views of the night sky. Planning your life together while stargazing? Does it get more romantic than that?
