What to Expect from Hostels in Toronto?

As we mentioned, there are not a lot of hostel options in Toronto. But that shouldn’t stop you from visiting the city. Staying on a hostel won’t just give your bank account a bit of a break, you’ll also get the opportunity to meet like-minded travellers from all over the world. The unique social vibes make hostels an incredible experience that you can’t get anywhere else.

But let’s get into the details. Unlike other cities, Toronto’s hostels don’t show much of a party scene – they’re set up for travellers that want to explore the city and have a peaceful sleep. Of course, there are a few exceptions, but you’ll mainly find an older and calmer crowd at these spots.

When it comes to prices, you’ll still be paying quite a bit compared to other cities, but it’s still more affordable than staying in a hotel or a Toronto Airbnb (again, there are a few exceptions). That is mainly because Toronto is an expensive city, so your overall living costs will be significantly higher. To prepare you for your trip, we’ve listed the average price range for dorms and private rooms below.

    • Dorms (mixed or female-only): $20-25/night
    • Private Rooms: $50-60/night

When looking for a hostel, you’ll find most hostels on HOSTELWORLD. There you can check out photos, detailed information about the place and even reviews from previous guests. Just like other booking platforms, each hostel will have a rating, so you can easily pick out the hidden gems!

In general, most Toronto hostels can be found near the city centre, in the heart and soul of all the cool attractions. To find the best hostels, check out these three neighborhoods:

    • Downtown – perfect for the first time visitors
    • Chinatown – the low-budget area
    • West Queen West – great for hipsters and digital nomads

Make sure you do a bit of research on where to stay in Toronto, so you can find the perfect neighborbhood for you. You don’t want to end up miles away from the hotspots.
