Bangkok is my favorite big city.

Famous for its wild parties and magnificent Thai temples. This is where two worlds collide, where old culture and tradition meet the buzzing cosmopolitan capital of Thailand.

Bangkok is implicitly the unofficial capital of all of South East Asia since most backpackers will inevitably fly into, out of, and/or pass through Bangkok on their trip. I still remember the morning I arrived – the beginning of my love affair with Asia that’s still going strong 6 years later.

But despite its popularity, figuring out where to stay in Bangkok can be overwhelming. There’s an infinite number of options available, but it’s not always easy to know what to go for.

Maybe you’re dreaming of diving into a rooftop infinity pool at one of Bangkoks luxury hotels, gazing out over the tranquil waters of the Chao Phraya River. Or, perhaps it’s venturing into the heart of Bangkok’s street food scene or experiencing the famed Patpong Night Market in all its glory. Rest assured, this city has a spot to satisfy every kind of wanderlust!

To help you out, I’ve created this guide on the best places to stay in Bangkok. I’ve picked out five epic areas to suit different travel styles and budgets, so you can find the best one for your needs.

How many days is long enough for Bangkok?

Remember that Bangkok is a bustling city with much more to offer than can be seen in a few days. You can easily fill a week or more exploring the city’s diverse neighborhoods. I personally think one week is the sweet spot to explore the gems Bangkok has to offer plus more.

What is the most walkable part of Bangkok?

One of the most walkable parts of Bangkok is Sukhumvit. This area is well-known for its shopping options, restaurants, and nightlife. Sukhumvit Road is lined with modern shopping centers, luxury hotels, and so many dining options you might get overwhelmed!

What is the best boutique hotel in Bangkok?

My top choice is undoubtedly Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok, primarily for its prime location in a trendy neighborhood. What truly sets it apart, however, is its intimate experience, combined with its stunning furniture that adds an extra touch of elegance to the stay.

Which neighborhood is trendy in Bangkok?

Siam: This is the heartbeat of Bangkok and it’s where you’ll find major shopping malls and trendy fashion stores. It’s a hub of activity, especially around Siam Square, which is often considered the Times Square of Bangkok.

Final Thoughts on Where to Stay in Bangkok

With so much to see and do in Bangkok, you’ll have plenty to throw on your Bangkok itinerary. Want to explore the Patpong Night Market, the Grand Palace, or be along the Chao Phraya River? Do you want a rooftop pool or would you rather sleep cheap and indulge in street food? By now hopefully, you also have a clearer idea of where to stay!

If you’re still not sure where exactly to base yourself for your trip, I highly recommend staying in Sukhumvit. That way, you’ll be able to experience Bangkok’s coolest restaurants, shops, and attractions. Plus, you’ll have easy public transport connections to help you explore the rest of the city.

My favorite hostel in Bangkok is Diff Hostel thanks to its awesome location, top amenities, and great value for money.

Meanwhile, Dang Derm in the Park is a superb option for travelers who want the convenience of a hotel. Located by Khao San Road, it’s ideally situated for discovering Bangkok’s most exciting areas.
