Japan Travel FAQs
How long do you need to backpack Japan?
Japan is the kind of destination where you can spend weeks or even months and still have plenty left to discover. If you're short on time, 2 weeks is enough to experience highlights like Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. 3 weeks lets you explore at a more relaxed pace and venture further afield, while 1 month gives you the freedom to discover lesser-known regions and experience a wider side of Japan.
Is Japan good for solo travel?
Definitely. Whether you're hopping between cities on the bullet train, discovering tiny ramen bars or exploring peaceful shrines, Japan is an awesome destination for solo travellers. It's safe, easy to get around and full of unforgettable experiences.
Is backpacking in Japan expensive?
It can be, but it doesn't have to be. While Japan is generally more expensive than many other Asian destinations, it's still possible to travel on a budget. Affordable hostels, convenience store meals, rail passes and free attractions make backpacking Japan much more accessible than its reputation suggests, especially if you plan ahead.
Is Japan easy to get around?
Absolutely. Japan's trains are fast, reliable and incredibly punctual, making it one of the easiest countries in the world to explore. Whether you're travelling by bullet train or navigating Tokyo's metro, getting around is all part of the experience.
