The Netherlands is a country located in Northwest Europe. The relatively flat territory is made up of a plethora of canal systems known as de gragten as well as windmills and cycle paths in their masses. The country is also littered with tulip fields, and each year the country really comes alive when they are in season.

Aside from this, the Netherlands is also a progressive and liberal nation and its people are some of the tallest in the world. Although the Netherlands is a relatively small area, it is one of the most densely populated countries in the world.

Right, enough about that. Let’s get on to the important stuff and the reason why I’m here – Airbnb in the Netherlands. And there are some pretty cool Airbnb rentals in the Netherlands. I’m talking about rental units in windmills, churches, treehouses, forest cabins, design houses, and more.

This article aims to narrow down the list of epic Airbnb’s in the Netherlands so that you can cherry-pick at your leisure. Whether you’re a solo traveler, a couple on honeymoon, or a group of mates looking to relax in a bougie villa for the weekend, I got you covered.

Without further ado, let’s get cracking!

What to Expect from Airbnbs in the Netherlands

If you rent Airbnbs while you’re visiting The Netherlands, there aren’t many unique options available. There are, however, many uniquely Dutch options available throughout the country.

In the cities like Amsterdam, much of the old architecture went for the skinny, tall approach. So smaller Airbnbs in The Netherlands can sometimes mean navigating awkward staircases.

Houseboats are another type of unique Airbnb in the Netherlands that you’re likely to come across. The Netherlands has a lot of water around and the network of canals, harbors, and other waterways play host to these floating houses. They have everything that a normal home or apartment does, except you’ll be literally on the water.

These houseboat Airbnbs definitely appeal to the more adventurous traveler and they definitely aren’t for everyone. Though obviously, because it is as cool as it sounds, these homes are usually on the luxury end of the budget.

A design home is something special – a stylish and architecturally stunning unit that has been designed or curated by a professional. Not everyone wants to stay in on a houseboat and rock to sleep or in a barnyard powered by sheep poo (though that sounds cool?). These units are all unique in their own ways and will appeal to those who are eager to try out a new aesthetic or live out some travel dreams.

Though, this is The Netherlands: you can expect the usual amenities across the board. I’m talking fully-equipped kitchens, dedicated workspaces, indoor heating… There are even saunas and indoor swimming pools in some luxury places.

It’s possible to find amazing Airbnbs throughout the Netherlands. You’re not limited to one area or city. This being said, you will likely spend more time staying in the city overall. Just don’t rule out the rural areas!

The Top 15 Airbnbs in The Netherlands

Now we’re onto the best part of the article – where we can start looking at some of the best, most unique Airbnbs in the Netherlands. You’ll probably be staying in Amsterdam at some point, but many of the best rentals can be found where you might least expect them too.

Let’s jump in!

Houseboat in Amsterdam | Overall Best-Value Airbnb in the Netherlands

houseboat in amsterdam

Of course, I have to kick off the best Airbnbs in The Netherlands with Amsterdam. But even more than that, this particular Airbnb is the cutest little houseboat you could ever think to stay in. It has all the bells and whistles of a boat, with all the comforts of home.

It’s in an amazing location close to Weesperplein and Artis Park, and of course, you’re right on the canal. So you get amazing city views from your private sun deck – a rarity for anyone visiting Amsterdam.

Charming Cabin Near Amsterdam | Best Budget Airbnb in the Netherlands

This is the perfect budget apartment that punches above its weight class. It’s just 10 minutes by public transport to Amsterdam Central. It can sleep up to two guests, so for $66 a night, it’s a great deal for budget travelers.

It’s got a fully-equipped kitchen, a dedicated workspace, it’s pet friendly, and has free parking on the premises. What more could you ask for?

Villa by the Rhine River | Over-the-Top Luxury Airbnb in the Netherlands

This unique villa concept is located a short commute from The Hague and is the perfect getaway for a group of friends. The 120-year old building has been renovated to give you and your friends a unique experience during your stay. The Rhine River boarders the property and it makes for the perfect place to sit and relax, go for a walk, and it’s a great place to travel with your fishing rod.

Psst…

We’ve turned this post into an Airbnb wishlist: compare prices & locations easily!

Charming, Centrally Located Apartment | Perfect Airbnb for Solo Travelers in The Netherlands

Charming, Centrally Located Apartment

My next Airbnb selection brings us to the city of Nijmegen in the Dutch province of Gelderland. This spacious apartment is centrally located within the city and is the perfect venue for solo travelers. I stayed here as alone and I rested so well after staying a while in hostels in Amsterdam.

It has a dedicated workspace for those who need to get some work done, and the nearby hilly area is perfect for sport and outdoor enthusiasts. At $91 a night, it’s a great option with amenities that pack a punch.

Vitamin Sea Double-floor Loft Scheveningen | Perfect Short-Term Airbnb for Digital Nomads in The Netherlands

Vitamin Sea Double-floor Loft Scheveningen

Scheveningen is one of my favourite places in The Netherlands. As well as being neighbour to cool, Dutch cities like The Hague and Delft, you’re smack bang on the beach.

It then goes without saying, this is not the best place for the winter in The Netherlands. Summer gets a bit warm indoors if there’s a heat wave but that’s why the beach is right on your doorstep!

The internet works really fast, but you’re also ideally located if you want to exercise your nomadic digital lifestyle in cafes and co-working spaces. This beautiful home has a dining room/workspace that floods with natural light during the day if you’d prefer to stay in.

Travel with peace of mind. Travel WITH a security belt.
Active Roots Security Belt

Stash your cash safely with this money belt. It will keep your valuables safely concealed, no matter where you go.

It looks exactly like a normal belt except for a SECRET interior pocket perfectly designed to hide a wad of cash, a passport photocopy or anything else you may wish to hide. Never get caught with your pants down again! (Unless you want to…)

More Epic Airbnbs in The Netherlands

Here are some more amazing Airbnbs in The Netherlands that I just couldn’t miss out. While I simply had to include a tonne of amazing Airbnbs in Amsterdam, I’ve not skipped some of my other favourite spots in the country.

Newly Built Maisonette Near Utrecht

This amazing maisonette just outside Utrecht is the perfect home for that family getaway just outside the city. It can sleep up to five guests so is ideal for you families with a few children. The house also has an amazing outside area where meals can be had whilst overlooking the meadow.

There are even horses, cows, and calves close by that the children can visit. The farm is freely accessible and is a great way to enjoy the tranquility of nature and farm life.

CRASH’NSTAY – The Silo Bungalow

CRASH'NSTAY - The Silo Bungalow

While it’s a little off the typical tourist trail in The Netherlands, this Airbnb gets a special shout-out. If you’ve been looking for that space to completely detach and unwind, look no further.

I visited this cute little wooden bungalow when I was looking for somewhere cheap for a break from the hostels in Rotterdam. I ended up staying here way longer than I expected!

Every detail from the kitchen to the patio has been meticulously placed with love. Get the fire burning and enjoy the simple life. The hot tub is the best place to be – even in the dead of winter!

Kazemat Zus

This is one of those places I noticed early on and didn’t think much of it. But when I noticed it again and booked it, I was stunned!

This unique Airbnb in The Netherlands. You get to sleep in Dutch history inside the fortifications of the waterline – and it looks the part!

As well as having every hospitality cared for: a super comfy bed, a nice, hot shower, and bicycle parking, this place is awesome. It’s a head-turner on the street and the location is also perfect in the centre of this quiet, Dutch town.

Luxurious Harbor Loft

Luxurious Harbor Loft

Kralingen-Crooswijk is considered to be one of the best neighborhoods in Rotterdam and it’s easy to see why. This unique apartment is in an old-style Dutch building and has some amazing classical artwork pieces, never mind the unforgettable Pink Bar inside.

The décor is minimal yet elegant, and the selection of amenities will add to making your stay a memorable one. There are also an abundance of restaurants, bars, and cafes close by for you to really get the feel of the bustling city.

Lovely Bungalow with Pool

This great studio apartment in Nardinclant, also known as Amsterdamgarden, is a short commute from Amsterdam and it’s a nice and quiet place to visit. It is a great option for those who are looking for an escape the hustle and bustle.

The shared indoor pool is one of the best features of this stay – it is heated and it is Olympic-sized. With tranquil garden views, a dedicated workspace, and pet-friendly status, this little gem is perfect for that weekend away.

Home by the Dunes, Beach, and Sea

This amazing beachfront home is a short commute from The Hague and is the ideal location for those summertime holidays. It is less than 100m from the beach and the town centre is a short walk away, too.

The ideal location and views of this beachfront apartment make it an obvious choice for a friends or family weekend away. The living room also overlooks the ocean and sand dunes so if the weather is a bit unfavourable (common in the Netherlands) your views won’t get interrupted.

Condo with Rooftop Terrace

This centrally located apartment is ideal for those who wish to head out at night to trendy bars, restaurants, and cafes. While there is no kitchen in the apartment, it is perfectly located close to a range of takeaway places and fancier restaurants. Besides, who wants to spend time cooking when there’s a party to be had?

Luxury Houseboat with Roof Terrace

Luxurious Apartment with Jacuzzi

This stylish and modern apartment in Maasland, a short commute from Rotterdam, is the perfect Airbnb in the Netherlands for honeymooners. Not only is the interior stunning, but it also boasts a sauna and a private hot tub – the perfect amenities for a romantic weekend away. Let’s not forget about the fully-equipped kitchen for you to rustle up a romantic dinner too.

FAQs about Airbnbs in the Netherlands

Here’s what people usually ask us when they look for vacation rentals and homes in the Netherlands.

What to Pack for The Netherlands

Pants, socks, underwear, soap?! Take it from me, packing for an Airbnb stay is not always quite as straightforward as it seems. Working out what to pack in your backpack and what to leave at home is an art I have perfected over many years.

Don’t Forget Your Netherlands Travel Insurance

It’s a preeeeetty safe country as it goes. But you do NOT want to get caught out with any health bills if you have to. Luckily, I’ve always had good insurance for travelling in The Netherlands. But I know people who haven’t.

ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing.

They offer month-to-month payments, no lock-in contracts, and require absolutely no itineraries: that’s the exact kind of insurance long-term travellers and digital nomads need.

SafetyWing is cheap, easy, and admin-free: just sign up lickety-split so you can get back to it!

Final Thoughts on The Best Airbnbs in the Netherlands

That now brings us to our quest to find the best Airbnb in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is one of the best places to travel around in Europe in my opinion – whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple, with friends, or even family! It’s so easy to get around and they are extremely welcoming to tourists.

Airbnb has taken off in The Netherlands – and for good reason. It’s always a great option, as I mentioned before – there are many advantages to using the platform. Although I must admit, Booking.com is starting to come in closely behind them now, too!

Take my advice – book your flight, bus, or train ticket and take that trip. Life is short and time spent travelling is never time wasted. But getting prepared as soon as possible for your Dutch trip can save you hundreds of euros.

Whether you’re after a quiet vacation rental or somewhere smack bang in the centre of chaos, choice is in no short supply. And believe me, any of these amazing Airbnbs above with offer you a great time.
