Is Oktoberfest worth visiting?
If you like beer, big crowds and a seriously lively atmosphere, Oktoberfest is quite an experience. Munich gets extremely busy during the festival, though, so accommodation prices can jump and you'll need to book well ahead. It's also worth remembering that there's much more to Bavarian culture than Oktoberfest.
Where can you see Germany's famous fairytale castles?
Bavaria is the place to start. Neuschwanstein is the most famous, but there are plenty of other castles and palaces dotted around the region. If you're travelling through southern Germany, it's easy to combine castle stops with alpine scenery, lakes and charming mountain towns.
What's the best way to travel around Germany?
Trains are usually the easiest way to travel between major cities, with Germany's extensive rail network connecting places like Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Cologne. Buses can be cheaper, particularly for longer journeys, while renting a car makes more sense if you're exploring rural areas.
Is Germany expensive to backpack?
Germany isn't the cheapest country in Europe, but you can travel on a budget. Hostels, supermarkets, bakeries and public transport can keep costs down, while cities like Munich and popular destinations during Oktoberfest can be considerably more expensive.
