Lucky enough to get tickets to a World Cup 2026 match? Or maybe you just want to visit a host city and soak up the atmosphere without selling an organ or two for tickets?
Either way, you’ll need a place to stay. Airbnbs can be a great fit, especially if you are traveling with friends, want a kitchen or laundry, or want to stay somewhere a little quieter. In many host cities, Airbnbs are likely to be the best value, especially if you’re willing to stay farther out and commute.
Now the catch: World Cup demand is going to be feral. Listings will disappear, prices will jump, and the “perfect place” you bookmarked might be longer available the second you try to check out. Hell, I had to update this article right before posting because enough had changed as I wrote it.
So instead of pretending I have personally slept in 48 different Airbnbs across 16 host cities in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. (although I have visited 13 of the cities and lived in 4), this guide is built as a framework: how to search intelligently, what to prioritize, and which types of listings tend to work best for matchday logistics. Fair warning that prices may make you yell out, “WHAT THE…” to no one in particular.
Airbnb has an official partnership with FIFA for the 2026 tournament. However, short-term rental rules are strict in places like New York City and Vancouver, and enforcement can be real. I will highlight legal considerations, plus give you practical stuff that matters like transit and trade-offs (because with a market like this, there likely will be trade-offs).
May 2026 Update: We’re just over a month out from the first game/match, and the World Cup Airbnb gold rush apparently isn’t quite the windfall hosts were banking on. The Wall Street Journal reported that Airbnb hosts are still waiting for bookings (paywalled, sorry – take my word for it). In my price checks, some hosts have quietly dropped prices while others are holding firm or have even raised them despite still being available. Either way, shop around – you may have more leverage than you think right now.

What to Know About The Cheapest Airbnbs for the World Cup
Relying purely on “best” Airbnb lists for the World Cup is going to cost you. If price isn’t an issue for you, that’s great (and I’m jealous). If you want to save money so you have something left over for food and the flight home, then you’ll likely need to compromise more than you normally would on a trip.
The cheapest options tend to fall into a few buckets: private rooms, smaller studios, longer commutes, or listings with fewer conveniences. That is not automatically a problem, but it changes what you should prioritize.
If matchday logistics matter most, choose location and transit over space. If you are staying longer, prioritize things that reduce friction, like laundry or a functional kitchen. It’s important to pick the best place to stay during the World Cup based on your individual needs, timescale and transport options.
How I Picked the Best Airbnbs
These Airbnb picks are a snapshot, not a promise. World Cup lodging is moving fast, and availability is changing constantly, so use this section as a model for how to evaluate listings, even if you end up booking something different.
Here’s what I prioritized when building each city’s shortlist:
- Guest Favorite and/or Super Host (this was must – many new Airbnbs are popping up to take advantage of the demand, and you’ll preferably avoid being someone’s first ever guest)
- Close to public transportation (when realistic for the city)
- Area walkability
- Parking availability in the cities where walking and transit are not the main plan
- What amenities were available
- Commute to the stadium (although in some cities where the stadium is far, that may not be the best option if you want a visitor’s experience in addition to the match)
- Price, but that’s all relative because everything is expensive
For each city, I give you three options:
- Budget: the best “cheap” option I could find that won’t give you tetanus (this is The Broke Backpacker, after all). These options will likely have some serious trade-offs.
- Mid-range: more comfort, fewer compromises.
- Expensive: what “nice” looks like if you decide to splurge (and given high prices, may not even be that nice). The World Cup might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and maybe you have some of grandma’s birthday money to spend.
Please note that I noticed hosts beginning to raise their prices for certain dates (yet another reason to book quickly!); the price of one of my budget Airbnb picks went up over $300/night over the course of just a week.
Airbnbs in Atlanta, Georgia, USA – Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta Stadium)
Atlanta is spread out, traffic is real, and “we’ll just pop over there” is how you lose an hour. The upside: it’s a legit soccer city by American standards, with Atlanta United pulling in some of the largest crowds in MLS. As a bonus, the Georgia Aquarium, one of the world’s largest, is well worth a visit.

The stadium is downtown, and yes, staying downtown is convenient, but it is also where prices are spiking the most. If you want a value approach, look along the MARTA rail so you can get in and out without relying on rideshares.
Look at staying in areas of Atlanta like Decatur, Midtown, Brookhaven, Sandy Springs, West End, or East Point if the listing is genuinely walkable to a station (beware that Atlanta’s version of “walkable” may not line up with your expectations).
On matchdays, GWCC/CNN Center and Vine City are the closest stops.
Top 3 Rental Picks
| Recommendation | Sleeps | Area | Amenities that matter | Trade-offs | Est. Commute | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cheap | ‘Master Suite near the Airport | 2 | Fairburn Mays | Kitchen, free parking, private bathroom | Shared, far from downtown and stadium, not walkable | 15-20 minutes by car. 30-45 mins by public transport |
| Mid-range | ATLANTA STUDIO West End/Downtown/Midtown/Airport | 3 | Historic West End | Kitchen, street parking, walkable | No downtown | About 4 miles from stadium. Driving: 15-25 minutes with gameday traffic Public Transit: 15-25 minutes Walking: 35-45 minutes |
| Expensive | Near World Cup games in downtown – Sleeps 4 | 4 | Downtown | Kitchen, laundry | Parking extra, sofa bed reportedly not comfortable | 15-20 minute walk |
Airbnbs in Boston, Massachusetts, USA – Gillette Stadium (Boston Stadium)
Boston is a city that combines quaint colonial architecture with modern amenities. It almost feels European at times, especially in the “the streets are designed to make you get lost” way.

Boston is one of the USA’s safest big cities, so it’s a great beginner spot where you don’t have to worry too much about crime and can ease in gently. Upscale Back Bay and charming Beacon Hill are the premium options, but the real booking strategy here is acknowledging that the stadium is inconveniently in Foxborough.
If you want to save money, look south and southwest of the city (Dedham, Norwood, Canton, Quincy, Sharon), or even Providence if the math works, and prioritize being near a commuter rail option.
Airbnb owners must live in their properties for 9+ months a year, so you may end up sharing with the owner. Additionally, noise levels must be kept below 50 decibels from 11pm-7am.
The commuter rail + shuttle will take you to the stadium. Allow 1 hour+ to make it there in time.

| Recommendation | Sleeps | Area | Amenities that matter | Trade-offs | Est. Commute | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | Jo’s Beach Queen shared apt | 1 | Arlington | Kitchen access, free onsite parking, beach access, walkable area | Shared bathroom, 3 flights of stairs, commute to Boston | 20-minute walk |
| Mid-range | Small & Comfy Room Walk to Gillette | 2 | Watertown | Kitchen access, free onsite parking, walkable to stadium | Shared Bathroom, not walkable neighborhood | 45-minute drive; 60 minutes by public transport |
| Expensive | (140R) Bohemian Back Bay Studio Retreat | 2 | Downtown | Private studio, kitchen, walkable | Paid parking | 45 minute drive; 60 minutes by public transport |
Airbnbs in Dallas, Texas, USA – AT&T Stadium (Dallas Stadium)
Dallas is a good option for your World Cup travels if you like BBQ and do not mind that “nearby” is a flexible concept. It’s a sprawling city, which matters for where you book.

The key planning detail is that the stadium is in Arlington, so booking “downtown Dallas” is not automatically the best value plan. If you want to keep costs down and keep matchday manageable, look in Arlington, Grand Prairie, Irving, or the Mid Cities (Euless, Bedford, Hurst), where you can often get more space for less. If you stay in Dallas proper for nightlife, just build in time and expect surges.
Airbnb in Dallas has restrictions allowing up to 3 guests per bedroom, and 12 per property.
Uber is the best way to get around in a city not known for great public transport, but special shuttles will run from key locations during the World Cup, which helps.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | Cozy Room/In the Heart of Downtown | 2 | Downtown | Kitchen access, walkable area, free street parking, close to Trinity River trails | Shared bathroom | 1 hour drive |
| Mid-range | Dallas loft – Your getaway home – | 3 | Downtown | Kitchen, pool, gym, free onsite parking | Not close to stadium (but nothing is) | 1 hour drive |
| Expensive | Helios House | 6 | Arlington | Kitchen, free onsite parking, walkable to stadium | High price to be far away from everything but the stadium | 20-30 walk |
Airbnbs in Guadalajara, Mexico – Estadio Akron (Estadio Guadalajara)
Guadalajara is quintessential Mexico, with mariachi and lucha libre on offer, and tequila country just outside the city.
Chapultepec is the lively central neighborhood of Guadalajara, full of trendy spots and restaurants, which is why it books up first and why it gets expensive fast during big events.

If you want better value during the World Cup, widen your search to quieter areas a bit farther out (including parts of Zapopan or Tlaquepaque) and plan on commuting in.
There are no Airbnb regulations to make things tricky, but expect taxes to bump up listing prices (which are amongst the cheapest you’ll find at the tournament).
Download Uber or DiDi, and use those apps for an easy 25-minute ride to the stadium.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | Morada Living Col. Moderna Studio 2 Singles | 3 | Colonia Moderna | Kitchen, onsite security, rooftop terrace, walkable area | Ceiling fan only (no A/C), far from stadium | 1 hour by car; 60-90 mins by public transit |
| Mid-range | 15 Awe loft, w sofa, dinning, terrace & A/C | 2 | Colonia Americana | Kitchenette, fun neighborhood, walkable to the Fanzone | A little expensive | 45 minutes by car; 1 hour by public transit |
| Expensive | Penthouse, ¡Unique, Stunning! In coolest Americana | 4 | Colonia Americana | Penthouse, kitchen, gym, panoramic terrace, fun neighborhood, walkable to the Fanzone | Pricey for this city, but less expensive than “cheap” options in some U.S. cities | 30-45 minutes on public transit |
Airbnbs in Houston, Texas, USA – NRG Stadium (Houston Stadium)
Houston is a sweltering city where the food is great and so are the distances. If you plan around transit instead of pretending you will just “wing it,” matchday gets a lot easier.
The easiest booking strategy is to make transit do the work. If you can stay near the METRORail Red Line, matchday is much simpler than rolling the dice on traffic and surge pricing.

Midtown, Museum District, and parts of EaDo can be solid bases depending on your budget and what you want to do outside matches.
Houston is one of the easiest cities to find Airbnbs in, with no laws making life difficult for guests (not coincidentally, this kind of laissez-faire attitude to regulations and zoning is why Houston is particularly unattractive, with strip malls next to schools next to single-family homes).
The METRORail Red Line takes you to the stadium, with Stadium Park/Astrodome Station a 10-15 minute walk away.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | New Private Suite. 1st Floor. BEST location | 2 | East Downtown | Kitchenette, close to public transit, free onsite parking | Shared, far away from the action | 30-minute drive. 45-60 minutes by public transit |
| Mid-range | Cozy Room in Heart of Houston (EaDo/East Downtown) | 2 | Downtown Houston | Free parking, close to public transit | Shared, no kitchen, no laundry | 30-minute drive. 45-60 minutes by public transit |
| Expensive | Central King 1BD | Pool Views, Gym, Free Parking | 4 | East Downtown | Resort-style outdoor area with pool, kitchen, laundry, gym, free parking | You might get a sunburn at the pool | 30 minutes by public transit. 30-45 minute drive |
Airbnbs in Kansas City, Missouri, USA – Arrowhead Stadium (Kansas City Stadium)
Kansas City is a host city to go to for three reasons: food, tailgating, and because you’re following your team there.
The BBQ reputation is real, and Arrowhead is built for a big game-day scene. It’s also typically more affordable to stay in Kansas City than budget-bashing cities like LA, New York City, or Miami, which is why it’s extra annoying that Airbnb prices spike hard here during the World Cup.
Downtown is convenient for nightlife, but if you are trying to save money, you can often do better in the suburbs, where you get more space and parking (Independence, Overland Park, Lee’s Summit), and then commute in. You’ll likely need a car or rideshare for that commute, though.

Kansas City does require short-term rentals to be registered with the city, so a host who’s transparent about registration is a good sign.
Public transport is limited, so plan on driving, rideshare, or a shuttle. Shuttles from hotels and bars are common for NFL games and are likely to show up again for the World Cup.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | Road Trip Retreat | 5 | 30-minute drive60-90 minutes by public transit | Kitchenette, laundry, close to free bus, street parking | Shared, no kitchen, 3 flights of stairs, not a walkable area | 30-minute drive60-90 minutes by public transit |
| Mid-range | Unique 100-year-old Apt Downtown KC | 6 | Downtown | Kitchen, laundry, walkable neighborhood, free onsite parking, outdoor dining area | Traffic noise | 30-minute drive. 60-90 minutes by public transit |
| Expensive | Loft in Downtown Kansas City | 4 | River Market, Downtown | Kitchen, great location, workspace | Very expensive (but KC prices are crazy overall), no laundry | 30-minute drive. 60-90 minutes by public transit |
Airbnbs in Los Angeles, California, USA – SoFi Stadium (Los Angeles Stadium)
Visiting LA can be incredible and annoying in the same hour. It’s beaches and taco stands and perfect weather, plus the small detail that everything is farther apart than it looks, and traffic is always waiting to humble you.
SoFi Stadium is in Inglewood. Staying in Inglewood itself is tricky, as there are rough areas. If you want to stay close to the stadium without rolling the dice, look at Westchester, Playa del Rey, El Segundo, or parts of Culver City, plus the South Bay if you’re okay being a bit farther out. Santa Monica is great, but it’s far from the stadium, and you’ll feel that on matchday. Downtown (Arts District or Little Tokyo) can be fun, but it’s a commute.

Image: Nic Hilditch-Short
LA has strict Airbnb laws. Properties must be primary residences (meaning you may share with the owner), and can only be rented out for 120 days a year. Limited supply means high prices.
Transit can work if you plan around it (Metro C Line to Hawthorne/Lennox and stadium shuttles are commonly used), but many people will still rely on rideshares, so build in time and budget for surges.
Top 3 Rental Picks
| Recommendation | Sleeps | Area | Amenities that matter | Trade-offs | Est. Commute | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | Sunny Master Suite with Private Bath | 2 | Little Tokyo | Mini fridge in room, laundry, close to stadium, 3 sweet cats | Shared, not very walkable | Just walk the three miles to the stadium. It’ll be quicker than other options |
| Mid-range | Modern 1BR Retreat in Downtown Hewitt | 5 | Santa Monica | Kitchen, walkable neighborhood, laundry, rooftop space, close to public transit | Far from stadium | 45 minutes by public transit. 1 hour drive |
| Expensive | Free Parking + Unique Movie Loft + Pool + Views | 4 | Downtown LA | Kitchen, laundry, walkable neighborhood, free parking, rooftop area with pool and hot tub, gym | Very expensive, far from stadium | 45 minutes by public transit. 1 hour drive |
Airbnbs in Mexico City, Mexico – Estadio Banorte (Estadio Azteca Mexico City)
Mexico City is the vibrant capital of Mexico, and a place with passionate football culture, more museums than any other city in the world (so they say), colonial architecture, world-famous Mexican cuisine, and ancient pre-Colombian ruins. It is one of the best host cities to visit, even if you never set foot in a stadium

Photo: @Lauramcblonde
It’s pretty safe if you use common sense, such as not flashing valuables and being cautious at night. Stay in neighborhoods of Roma, Condesa, or Polanco for safety, convenience, and decent amenities.
If you want easier stadium logistics, look south, closer to Coyoacán, San Ángel, or parts of Tlalpan, and plan to use the Metro plus Tren Ligero route. It is usually more predictable than sitting in traffic.
Airbnbs can only be let out for 180 days annually, meaning lower supply and higher prices to make up for it.
Take the metro to Tasqueña Station, then the Tren Ligero from there to Estadio Azteca Station.
Top 3 Rental Picks
| Recommendation | Sleeps | Area | Amenities that matter | Trade-offs | Est. Commute | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | Rent a room in the Tlalpan hospital area | 1 (several rooms available if you have friends) | Centro Historico | Kitchen access, easy transit access, short walk to Bosque de Tlalpan (big, beautiful forest park) | Shared, not much nightlife or tourist attractions | 15 minute drive35 minutes by public transport45 minute walk |
| Mid-range | Down town Loft in Mexico City | 2 | Centro Historico | Kitchen, walkable area, gym, rooftop garden, easy access to public transport | No AC | Hour drive, hour by public transit |
| Expensive | S16 Studio with a Colonial History Flavor | 2 | Centro Historico | Kitchenette, walkable to city and Fanzone, 24-hour security guard | No AC | Hour drive, hour by public transit |
Airbnbs in Miami, Florida, USA – Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Stadium)
Miami is an awesome city that gives you Latin American vibes, but unfortunately, without Latin American prices to match. It’s still a cool city to grab a mojito, brush up on your Spanish, and hit up the bustling beaches and iconic nightlife scene.
Hard Rock Stadium is in Miami Gardens, not in the tourist core. If you want to keep costs down, the practical move is staying north of downtown (North Miami, North Miami Beach, Aventura) or even up into Broward County (Hallandale, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale) and commuting. If you stay in Brickell, Wynwood, or Miami Beach, you are paying for the scene, not stadium convenience.

Photo: @amandaadraper
Short-term rental rules are a patchwork here, and Miami Beach is the big tripwire. The City of Miami Beach bans short-term vacation rentals in single-family homes and restricts them in many multifamily zones, which squeezes supply and pushes prices up where short-term rentals are allowed.
Metrobus 297 heads straight to the stadium from downtown, but expect shuttles to run too.

| Mid-range | Artsy 1-Bedroom+Pvt. Bath in Super Trendy Brickell | 2 | Brickell | Walkable to nightlife and public transit | Shared, no kitchen access (can use fridge), no laundry, no parking | 30-minute drive. 1.5 hours by public transport |
| Expensive | Ocean Drive’s Famous Carlyle – Just Perfect! | 2 | South Beach | Kitchen, laundry, beach access | No parking | 30-minute drive. 1.5 hours by public transport |
Airbnbs in Monterrey, Mexico – Estadio BBVA (Estadio Monterrey)
Monterrey offers something a little different from the other Mexican host cities. It’s surrounded by mountains, offering great hiking opportunities if the weather holds up. The cuisine combines meats and spices, with the delicious cabrito al pastor (roasted goat) a particular favorite.
Monterrey is safe, but if travelling to or from Texas, take the Glorias de Colombia highway, not Carretera Federal 101, which is known as the “highway of death” due to cartel activity.

The booking strategy here is to keep your route simple. If you want the polished option, San Pedro is the obvious choice, but it is rarely the budget choice. For better value, look at central Monterrey or closer to Guadalupe, and focus on AC, building quality, and noise control.
Airbnb guests pay a 3% lodging fee (included in the price), but face no other restrictions.
Taking the Metro to Exposicion station (Line 1) and Uber/DiDi are the best routes to the stadium.

| Budget | Apartment in Guadalupe | 3 | Guadalupe | Kitchen, laundry, AC | Spartan furnishings, not a walkable area neighborhood | 15 minutes by car30 minutes by public transit |

| Expensive | Apartment in Parque Fundidora, Arena Mty, Cintermex | 6 | Parque Fundidora | Kitchen, AC, gym, walkable to the Fanzone and public transit | No laundry, very expensive by Mexican standards | 15-20 minutes by car 1 hour by public transit |
Airbnbs in New York / New Jersey, USA – MetLife Stadium (New York / New Jersey Stadium)
The city that never sleeps lives up to its reputation, with endless things to do. A trip to New York City will be lively, full of energy, a little gritty at times, but certainly never boring.
New Jersey, on the other hand, is much quieter, but still offers awesome beaches, casinos, and general vibes, especially around the Atlantic City area.

Image: Nic Hilditch-Short
For value, staying in New Jersey is usually the move, especially near NJ Transit lines that feed into Secaucus, then connecting to the Meadowlands Rail Service on matchday. Staying in Manhattan can be great if you are paying for the NYC experience, but it is not the practical choice for a stadium in New Jersey.
NYC has strict Airbnb laws. You must stay with the host (if staying under 30 days), and only 2 guests are allowed. It’s not possible to legally rent an apartment for short stays.
In New Jersey, rules vary by municipality. You must share with the host in Jersey City. Also, expect taxes of up to 14% across the state, which will be included in the initial booking price.
Go to Secaucus Junction by train, before taking the Meadowlands Rail Service to the stadium.

| Expensive | Vibrant Studio Apartment – Hoboken, New Jersey | 2 | Hoboken, NJ | Kitchen, microwave, AC | No full kitchen, no in-unit laundry | 30 minutes+ by rideshare |
Airbnbs in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA – Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia Stadium)
Philadelphia is gritty, historic, and intensely sports-obsessed, so it will have a raucous atmosphere for the World Cup. Yes, cheesesteaks are great, but roast pork is the pro move when visiting Philly.
It’s easy to default to Center City because it’s close to sights and there’s a lot going on, but during the World Cup, it can also be where prices climb fastest. A more budget-friendly strategy is staying anywhere that keeps you close to the Broad Street Line, because it makes stadium trips simple without needing to be in the most expensive blocks.

Image: Nic Hilditch-Short
A good ol’ broke backpacker workaround is looking just outside the city in suburbs that sit along the regional rail lines. Towns like Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Media, Jenkintown, or Conshohocken often have better availability and calmer neighborhoods, and the trains run straight into 30th Street Station.
From there, you can jump onto the subway and be on the Broad Street Line in minutes. It’s an easy way to stay connected to the stadium without paying Center City premiums.
There aren’t any major Airbnb restrictions here, but 15.5% of what you pay will be in taxes.
The Broad Street Line makes transport to the stadium easy, so consider that on matchdays.

Airbnbs in San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA – Levi’s Stadium (San Francisco Bay Area Stadium)
San Francisco is beautiful, expensive, and compact enough that you can have an incredible day without ever leaving a few neighborhoods. It’s also a city where “bring a jacket” is good advice even in July. That said, a trip to San Francisco is pretty much the epitome of combining the tournament with once in a lifetime travel experiences.
The key booking strategy is remembering that Levi’s Stadium is far away in Santa Clara, not San Francisco. If you want value and easier matchdays, look in the South Bay and Peninsula (Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, San Jose), where you are closer and usually get more space.

If you stay in SF, do it for the experience and accept the commute to the match as a day trip from SF. Stay downtown or around SoMa for the best experiences.
Airbnb is also restricted, with bans in some cities, limits to <30 days in others, and rules that the host must live there for 275+ days annually, so there’s a chance you’ll be sharing here.
Allow 2+ hours for matchday travel, with slow public transport. Uber will have hefty surcharges.

Airbnbs in Seattle, Washington, USA – Lumen Field (Seattle Stadium)
Seattle is one of the few host cities where you can do a matchday and still have an actual city day around it. It’s waterfront walks, coffee, and that “the outdoors is not a marketing line” thing. It’s also not cheap, and during the World Cup, the lodging prices are going to be genuinely rude.
Downtown, Belltown, and Capitol Hill are the fun neighborhoods in Seattle‘s city core, but the current prices are breathtaking, and not in a good way.
If you want value, look along the Link line (Beacon Hill, Columbia City, Othello, Roosevelt, Northgate, U District, Redmond). For deep value, check out Tacoma, where a 1-hour train ride brings you into Seattle.

Seattle does have short-term rental rules, and they can vary by city if you’re staying outside Seattle proper (Bellevue, Redmond, Tacoma, etc.), so treat legality as location-specific.
The big headline in Seattle: operators can generally run up to two units as short-term rentals, and one has to be the host’s primary residence.
When you’re comparing similar listings, a host who’s transparent about licensing and has lots of recent reviews is usually the safer bet.
Getting to Lumen Field is straightforward: walk if you’re staying downtown, or take the Link light rail if you’re farther out.

Airbnbs in Toronto, Ontario, Canada – BMO Field (Toronto Stadium)
Canada’s largest city is a multicultural metropolis. Toronto is divided into neighborhoods ranging from Chinatown to Little Italy, and it can handle large events. It’s known for being clean and safe, although you can expect your wallet to take a beating in a city that isn’t exactly “broke backpacker” friendly.

Staying downtown puts you in the middle of everything, but it is also where prices jump fastest. A more realistic value strategy is staying just outside the core and using transit (west end, east end, or anywhere that makes TTC and GO service straightforward), and pushing farther out to places like Mississauga or Scarborough if you need bigger savings.
If booking a room on Airbnb, you must stay in the host’s primary residence. This doesn’t apply to whole apartment bookings.
GO Transit is your best bet on matchdays. Rideshares come with heavy surge fees.

Airbnbs in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – BC Place (BC Place Stadium)
Vancouver is one of the most scenic host cities and one of the most expensive, so the booking strategy matters here. That said, I personally think it’s well worth the expense and a trip to Vancouver is going to be only second best to that last minute winner Saka is going to smash to lift the trophy, right?!
BC Place is central, but you do not need a downtown listing to make matchdays easy.

The value approach is to follow the SkyTrain. Burnaby, New Westminster, and parts of Richmond can offer better rates while keeping the commute simple. Surrey is often a cheaper place to stay in Vancouver, if you are willing to accept a longer ride.
Vancouver’s short-term rental rules are strict: you must live in the property as your principal residence, you need a city short-term rental business licence, and the licence number must be included in online listings.
Use this as a quick filter when you’re searching: the listing should show a City of Vancouver short-term rental business licence number, and it should look like a real primary residence, not a dedicated rental unit.
To get to the stadium, Stadium-Chinatown Station (Expo Line) is the closest SkyTrain stop, and it is about a five-minute walk to BC Place from there.

Airbnb Booking Checklist for World Cup 2026
Use this as a quick screen so you do not book a “great deal” that turns into a problem.
Key filters to use if you’re doing your own research:
- 4.7+ rating and recent reviews (not just a high total count)
- Guest Favorite and/or Superhost
- Self-check-in if you might arrive late
- Essentials: Wi-Fi, AC (you WILL want this in most host cities), laundry, kitchen
- Parking, if you will have a car (confirm it is actually included)
Mistakes to avoid when booking an Airbnb for the World Cup
- Tough matchday logistics: check the route and time before you book, and make sure there’s a plan for a late return
- Check-in friction: ensure you can check in late if that’s your plan
- Bad cancellation terms, if you can avoid it, although many Airbnb hosts are taking advantage of the World Cup to put in restrictive terms
- An illegal unit (avoid brand new rentals in the cities that I’ve highlighted with restrictive short-term rental legality)
- Hidden costs, if any

Below is a host message template you can use to confirm critical information if the listing doesn’t have what you need. You can adjust it as needed.
Hi [Host Name],
I’m looking at your place for [dates] for [number of people]. It looks great!
I have some quick questions before I book:
- How does check-in work, and is late check-in OK?
- What’s the parking situation (if any)?
- Any quiet hours or noise rules?
- If your city requires an STR license/registration, can you confirm the listing is compliant?
Plan to Lock in Your Stay
This is the strategy that keeps you from panic-booking something you regret.
- Step 1: Confirm cities and matchdays. Plan how much time you want before and after the matches. Some cities warrant more extra time than others.
- Step 2: Pick 1 primary Airbnb and 2 backups per city. Airbnb availabilities will change quickly, and hosts can cancel. Save your picks in a World Cup Wishlist so you can find them quickly if needed.
- Step 3: Book refundable if you can and refine later. You might not get your perfect place right now, but if you find something that works at a price that doesn’t hurt, I’d advise you to book it now. Upgrade later if you find something better.
Travel Insurance
ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing.
They offer month-to-month payments, no lock-in contracts, and require absolutely no itineraries: that’s the exact kind of insurance long-term travellers and digital nomads need.
SafetyWing is cheap, easy, and admin-free: just sign up lickety-split so you can get back to it!

Don’t Make a Hard Process Harder
With accommodation demand far outpacing supply in World Cup host cities, you might feel like Curaçao – the smallest nation ever to make a World Cup – fighting to make the knockout stage.
However, if you’re clear on your priorities (cost, stadium commute, proximity to nightlife, amenities) and you execute on your plan, then you might just make the folks at home proud.
